I am not a professional historian, but one of the things that sparked my interest in history was reading Rifles For Watie in middle school.

I have never been harassed by a blue jay nor a robin. I have been dive bombed by barn swallows when I have gotten too close to a nest. But the prince of songbird assholes is surely the red-wing blackbird. Those fuckers will go after hawks.

Cy, my son’s dog when he was growing up, did not like thunderstorms and would sometimes try to hide behind the curtains. He did love snow.
