Safe abortion care saves lives, but access looks different depending on where you live. New Guttmacher research covers shifts in postabortion care in Kenya, unintended pregnancy among refugee teens in Uganda, and pharmacy access to abortion pills in Ethiopia. Learn more: https://gu.tt/4xaQtcg
Abortion should be available to everyone, in all communities. Follow @abortioncare.bsky.social and @guttmacher.org for more of the facts on abortion care and access.
The closure of independent abortion clinics is another threat to access: 100 clinics have closed or stopped providing care since Dobbs. When clinics close, patients lose key options close to home. Learn more from @abortioncare.bsky.social: abortioncarenetwork.org/communitiesn... #IndiesProvide
State abortion policies reach far beyond their borders, creating regional & even national disruptions to care, as shown by our latest data on travel patterns from Texas & Florida. Traveling for abortion requires time, money & crossing hundreds or thousands of miles. More: gu.tt/4dnYPED
New findings from our Monthly Abortion Provision Study show how state bans, clinic closures & telehealth have shifted where & how abortion is accessed in the US—with many people still traveling far for care. We joined @abortioncare.bsky.social to share the latest data on travel for abortion care ⬇️
A win for abortion access in Pennsylvania: A Court has cleared the way for state Medicaid funds to cover abortion care. Everyone deserves timely, affordable and compassionate care in their own community. Our interactive policy map is up to date: https://gu.tt/4985P4S
Guttmacher joined thousands of researchers & organizations in opposing a Trump administration rule that would politicize the federal grant-making process & harm #ReproductiveHealth programs & research. We stand with those fighting for rigorous science over ideology. More: https://gu.tt/4vyc1yC
Nearly 43 million women in the US use birth control, but not all are using their preferred methods. Our latest research breaks down data on contraceptive use & preferences. Everyone deserves access to birth control methods that work best for them. More in our new fact sheet: https://gu.tt/44mHcS7
Trans people deserve high-quality #ReproHealth services. Many publicly supported clinics in the US are stepping up to ensure this care by adopting trans-inclusive practices. All trans patients should have access to care that meets their needs & respects their identity. More: https://gu.tt/4eLVoKU
It's been 4 years since the #Dobbs decision & abortion is still severely restricted across the US—with 13 states currently banning care entirely. Advocates & policymakers must champion a bold vision of access that goes beyond Roe, rooted in evidence & human rights to guarantee access for all.
The Trump admin’s refusal to release $9.7M in contraceptives has cost US taxpayers an additional $434,317 for transportation & storage since January 2025. And with every month of inaction, the US spends an additional $24,000 on storage. We analyzed the cost to women: https://gu.tt/4eyO17W
As #PrideMonth continues, let’s remember: ➡️ Trans Rights 🤝 Reproductive Rights ️➡️ Gender-affirming care is essential health care. ➡️ No matter how someone identifies, they deserve access to affordable and high-quality care.

We aim to continue these conversations so that US policymakers draw on the substantial and growing body of #ReproductiveHealth research to develop informed and equitable policies.
Throughout the day, more than 20 experts held meetings with over two dozen Congressional offices. These discussions emphasized the importance of using evidence to shape strong #ReproductiveHealth policy, especially legislation to expand access to abortion and contraception.
Guttmacher and @ibisrh.bsky.social recently hosted an advocacy day that brought researchers and policy experts virtually to Capitol Hill to share our latest work to advance reproductive health & rights with US Congressional staff. 🧵
61 years ago, the US Supreme Court affirmed the right to use birth control and have privacy in family planning. Today, these rights are threatened by lawmakers seeking to undermine reproductive freedom. We must keep fighting to ensure contraceptive access for all. #GratefulforGriswold
LGBTQ+ rights & repro rights are deeply connected in the fight to ensure that all people can exercise autonomy & fundamental human rights in decisions about their health, lives & well-being. During #Pride & every day, we must keep working to uphold the health & rights of all LGBTQ+ communities.
High-quality evidence informs policies that defend bodily autonomy. Guttmacher’s latest US research provides data on pressing #ReproductiveHealth topics, from where people get birth control to how publicly supported clinics provide transgender-inclusive care. Learn more: https://gu.tt/4vsFQB4
The Nevada Supreme Court temporarily blocked a 40-year-old law that required parental notification for any person under 18 seeking abortion in the state. This case will continue in lower courts. Nevada now shifts to “Protective” on our interactive state policy map. Learn more: https://gu.tt/4985P4S

The Pennsylvania Attorney General has appealed a state court ruling that allowed state Medicaid funds to cover abortion. As litigation continues, PA Medicaid recipients will continue to not be able to use their insurance to pay for abortion care. Our map is up to date: https://gu.tt/4985P4S
Young people deserve access to reproductive health care without barriers. However, in the US only 12 states and DC allow minors to get abortion care without parental consent or notification. We must #TrustTeens and fight for policies that support their bodily autonomy. @youthrepro.bsky.social
However, this case will continue in lower courts, and access to abortion care remains fragile across the US. To find abortion care, visit PlanCPills.com, AbortionFinder.org or iNeedAnA.com.
The US Supreme Court’s decision to allow telehealth, mailing and pharmacy provision of #mifepristone to continue provides urgently needed relief after weeks of disruption to care.
As we celebrate #MothersDay, let’s remember that all parents and caregivers deserve access to the full range of sexual and reproductive health care to help them make decisions about their families, well-being, and lives.
It’s #FreeThePill Day! Two years ago, the first OTC birth control pill—Opill—became available in the US, thanks to @freethepill.bsky.social and many others. This was a critical step toward ensuring that everyone has affordable access to the contraceptive method that works best for them. 👏
Yet gender-affirming care (GAC) is being targeted: According to @kff.org, 26 states now enforce bans on this care for youth. 13 of these states also have total abortion bans in effect. Efforts to restrict GAC & #ReproductiveHealth care are part of a broader campaign to undermine bodily autonomy.
Many of the clinics we surveyed are working to meet the needs of trans patients by offering services such as gender-affirming hormone therapy and adopting inclusive clinical practices that respect patients’ gender identity.
Every year, publicly supported clinics provide free or affordable contraception to millions of people. These clinics are also uniquely situated to provide #GenderAffirmingCare to trans and gender-expansive patients, many of whom are young and have limited financial resources.
