CG and game art person who also farms smallish family farm. I like most things mechanical.
Yup same here In Finland. Story, still, is about inspirational entrepreneur who made it to trillionaire via innovative products that people want. When his trillion(s) are not built by any business. And many many official institutions still use X for communication with the public.
In s2000 a web based social avatar thing kultakala opened (later Habbo). I had a room in the virtual hotel. I bought a bar cabinet via sms (~1€ billed via phone bill). But I received cabinet after cabinet and had to email support to confirm that I'd been billed only for one. Felt absurd at the time.
That didn't cover the cross funding and financial ruin but here is more. www.wivb.com/news/local-n... cleantechnica.com/2015/07/24/s...
the comment about logistics - Elon said around then that nobody in human history has known as much about manufacturing as he does + that their factory logistics equal in achievement that of the WWII logistics. The guy likes to say things he likes to say - connection to reality is optional and rare.
And to anyone who falsely thinks Newsom is a good guy just because he is trolling Trump...
I had a talked about the slab, then asked 14*7 as I had Claude open. It assumed I meant meters and gave a typical long response of garage floors etc. And gave an answer of 100m2 - which is a rounded answer clearly. So I asked for 14*7 again which apparently was not fit for it. Hilarious to me.
I both agree but also disagree with the biggest cheerleaders. The facts that Amazon workers are using AI to run random useless tasks - because AI use is made a KPI is nuts. Trains, internet, cellphones etc. didn't need to made a KPI to become popular. This is my yesterday experience with Claude:
Woke up to a F-18 flyby at 5am. Drone hazard in region near Helsinki. A few explosive carrying long range drones from Ukraine have crashed into Finland. Earlier they were UAVs meant for Russian oil facilities in Baltic Sea but gone astray for one reason or another.
I used to have a long thread on X about Elon's claims how Tesla gigafactories will be powered by solar. They have some solar now but for years it was just narrative and PR. An actual look at car companies revealed that even Suzuki had more solar. Toyota, Benz, VW and Audi have huge plants or PPAs
here is 2010 vs 2020 my point in this is that in 2010 _nobody_ would have believed that wind would grow to the scale it has. It brought more production to the market than OL3 reactor project - in the timeline of OL3 delays...
Greetings from Finland. Sucky part is farming and fertilizer etc. cost being up 40% in addition to the farming diesel being up 65%. These aren't easily converted to alternatives - even if there is a will.
Rowing season (or concept2 erg season anyway) ends today. Made 1,000,000m for the 1st time. Did one real PB (5k at 18:53.x) and I think I will be able to test 10k and 1/2 marathon PBs next month. I also hit deadlift PB past winter. So pretty happy. Not bad for a 48yo I say to myself.
Finnish Airforce conscript pilots were being funny and got reprimanded. We have mandatory military service but to get to serve in the airforce pilot program is fairly hard to get in - that is the 1st step to become an actual air force pilot so screening is done with that in mind.
Here stats from finland. 1st is all traffic fatalities. 2nd is same but last few years only 3rd is kilometers driven by passenger vehicles and vans/pickups Both active and passive safety improvements are real.
That is actually her point. That there has been big effort to get women into traditionally male dominated fields but little effort to the opposite. And I doubt it's just about willingness to "take a job" but education to certain fields etc. The (stupid and on purpose provocative) quote is from:
Here are YoY graphs for 4 large auto groups sales in Europe. Tesla ignored as it's demise is not due to the broader trend. Hitting all time highs in 2025 with healthy growth rate - this despite Geely, SAIC and BYD (non legacy) growing fast too. Not all segments and all people want or can switch.
Legacy automakers have lost interest in EVs is very US centric view. In Europe BEV market share is quite high and growing at decent clip. And ICE car sales are in decline while BEV is up. Yes the most optimistic projections are not happening but giving up on EVs is not accurate. 1/2
On the eve of WW3 stepping up a notch I feel sentimental and feel like crapping on Elon's parade. After all that is what I am mostly here for. Soo... Starlink pitch few years back was $600 revenue per customer. Somehow the reality doesn't match the pitch.
Yeah I think that is fair. Honestly wouldn't be surprised if Donny went all nuke. He was already asking during his 1st term why they can't be used. Let's hope this is his nutty bluff.
I am prepping a Tesla Semi thread as I read that they are (again) starting the production and it will revolutionize trucking. teaser
I dislike the company, their (lack of) values etc. But investor acts are not that irrational here.
