On my way home… I have a lot to say about Närcon (which I’ll talk about later probably) but I’d be lying if I said I never want to go again. This is as big as conventions can get for me and I’ll happily experience this once a year! (though maybe with some slight changes lmao)
Yum (the salad wasn’t so yum but edible at least) (also god bless kåsa and free coffee)
Almost forgot to post my cosplay lineup oops. Maya going for her last hurrah probably, that cosplay is so old lol
Bus time :] i get sick on buses easily but i also like traveling by bus, especially when i’m traveling somewhere new!
When I Arrived At The Castle Oh hey, I’ve seen this ending in a video game before. And I really, really like that video game. The art was mesmerising as always, though.
Venus ja minä (Kyuukanbi no kanojotachi) A fun story about finding self confidence and your own freedom. The pace of the story was something I had to get used to, but I did enjoy how it was told. The raincoat metaphor didn’t always work for me though, even if the end contextualizes it well.
Millenium Actress Not my new favorite Satoshi Kon movie, but I liked it! The story was easy to follow despite the back-and-forth between movie scenes and reality (which I really like!), and the emotional core was very effective. Music was also great! I don’t rly have anything bad to say about it
Witch Hat Atelier (Season 1) This is as great of an adaptation that could've been made of the first few volumes. Animation and music are beautiful, and the voice actors do a terrific job bringing the characters to life. But just like in the manga, the story moves on very slowly: "nothing-
skipped desucon this year but my sister got me some cool stuff 🥹🫶 bless anyone making rpgmaker horror merch!!
-system is fun, the battles can feel cramped throughout lumiose and i much prefer the turn-based battles. z-a has a lot of fun elements, but by the time i caught zygarde i was ready to move on. thanks to gamefreak for corbeau at least :)
Pokemon Legends: Z-A the perfect 7/10 videogame. not great, but not the dumpsterfire this fanbase wants to say it is. despite this, i can’t see myself recommending it to most people: it IS pokemon, yet the differences can either make or break the enjoyment of the game.
The Amazing Digital Circus i think this show just wasn't for me. it's well crafted and entertaining, but that's as much flowers i can give. which is a shame since thematically it deals with some very heavy issues and topics and has some cool characters (who are 100% elevated by their voice acting).
Gnosia (anime) overall a very solid adaptation of a solid story in a great game. yuri is a fun protagonist and the animation is surprisingly stellar! a bit too fanservice-y and didn't really expand on the characters or universe in a way i would have liked, but a fun watch nonetheless!
pokemon z-a spoilers - - - - - - - so far the mega evos have been very hit or miss but wdym my funny rock dude can turn into THIS eldritch horror monster??? /positive
-nitpicks (i don't need to hear the characters say out loud what i'm supposed to understand from a certain scene) but otherwise this was absolute cinema. the wolf does not hate the lamb when it kills.
Frankenstein (2025) i watched this a few days ago and afterwards i was so emotionally drained that i couldn't articulate any coherent thoughts about it. regardless if it's a "valid" adaptation of the original story, this movie understands the intended message and delivers it so well. i had some-
Jumalan unelma (Wir sind Utopia) a little confusing (for someone like me who rarely reads literature that’s almost 100 years old) but an interesting contemplation on religion, war and humanity. i simultaneously liked the lengthy dialogue but also could not comprehend it at times. it was good!
Kesäyön Tarinat (Byakuya Zoushi) …nah. i grabbed this for free and it wasn’t worth it. the finnish translation was pretty terrible too.
