machine pieced the diamonds and machine appliqued the hand, but the flower was hand appliqued cuz i'm a lunatic. hand quilted too! phew.
finished this quilt a week or two ago, based on a gouache painting i did back in january. the brown diamonds are dyed with cutch and madder, while most of the colors are store bought (tho there's some naturally dyed bits here and there and the backing is dyed with goldenrod)
I havent been active publicly because over the last week and a half i have unfortunately gone fucking insane with obsession over ryuki from aitsf nirvana initiative. I just… i just love him so much… im going to bite him… jesus christ
Finally taking a look at these lightfast tests i was doing with knotweed (left) and wattle/acacia (right). I left these up in a southwest facing window for about 3.5 months cuz i couldnt find much info about their qualities
Ok ok ok gotta do other things. I will baste these and hand quilt em while i’m on the train to nyc this weekend
Finished a third this morning. My fav part of the process was realizing i needed more green for the borders, so i just went in my basement and made some :’)
Im sooooo bad about holding onto scraps and not using them, but dyed fabric is so stupidly precious that im trying to find SOMETHING to do with the random offcuts. Maybe i’ll have a bunch of tiny things for the pride market next month, idk
went to the cemetery to take some quilt pics, here's a random one i made last month cuz i needed to mess around. machine pieced and hand quilted~~~~
closeup on the bastards. i drew these with a g nib and zig ink and then added tones digitally. i'm still not confident drawing either of these guys but we're getting somewhere.
the #quiltyaoi guys officially have names, even if i'm still learning to draw 'em. pls welcome secret sadist sewing instructor Mary and washed-up tattoo artist turned graphic designer Lucky! illustration inspired by a quilt found in "Folk Quilts and How to Recreate Them" by Audrey and Douglass Wiss
I promise i will not post every new row but im kind of obsessed with this process
Starting what is probably gonna be my most emotionally taxing project since SULK/STEW (lol who even remembers)
