Using LLMs to work with your code gives you a kick of adrenaline. You can develop at a rapid pace, build things as if you had a large team. Only that you have none. In fact, you are (often) alone, working with a statistical machine that turns energy into code.

It seems like many ‘vibe coders’ don't realize that they don't actually have a community around them. They build projects as if they had, and spend resources accordingly. We see projects having a lot of code activity, heavy CI/CD testing, frequent and large release binaries. Sometimes, it feels like the amount of supported platforms exceeds the amount of actual users.

To us, it seems ridiculous to see projects with a single developer and virtually no users consuming as much or even more resources than some of the largest community projects on Codeberg, which operate frugal with CI/CD and storage resources. We do not believe it is reasonable for Codeberg to invest our precious donation money into hosting of large ghost projects."

I'm working on search in Chatto.

Search in Chatto is pluggable. Chatto owns the client-facing feature while a provider supplies indexing, matching, and ranking through a versioned, server-side NATS service. Operators can replace the provider without changing the Search page or public API.

Chatto ships with a simple Bleve-based provider out of the box. It keeps a disposable full-text index on a local volume and should scale to most Chatto installations. You can run it inside chatto run, move it into a separate process, or replace it with another compatible provider.

Nothing merged yet, and I'm not 100% sure if they're coming with 0.5, so they may still be some time away. :( Here are screenshots from the first PoC, but it really only was exactly that. Very basic, just wanted to test my hypothesis regarding the data structure flexibility.

I'm pprof'ing Chatto and letting the agent dissect the results.

"The nine-hour heap is actually slightly below the original 18-minute snapshot. No slow upward-retention trend is
visible.

Highlights:

- myEvents retains just one 0.5 MiB sample on one pod and nothing measurable on the other.
- Projections remain stable at roughly 31–33 MiB.
- Compression pools have refilled to about 16.6–17.7 MiB, explaining most of the rebound from the post-GC
snapshots.

- Realtime/myEvents allocated about 283 MiB per pod over 8 hours 9 minutes: approximately 0.58 MiB/minute, almost
perfectly symmetrical.

- Only around 106–114 MiB of that interval flowed through filterLiveEvent.
- Cgroup usage at capture was approximately 170 and 175 MiB.
- RSS was about 217 MiB on both pods, slightly below the original capture.
- The apparent goroutine spike was 111 temporary idle HTTP keep-alive connections on one pod. They have a two-
minute timeout; it is not a myEvents or lifecycle leak.

Both pods remain Ready with zero restarts, and JetStream is healthy. No forced GC was performed."

Giving the @chatto.run call UI some more upgrades just in time for the upcoming 0.4.0 release.

The Chatto UI with a call sitting in its sidebar. Just little old me giving a thumbs up and sharing my screen, which has zombo.com opened for some reason.

The same call UI, but put into "wide mode", where it uses the full window (sans sidebars.)

You can fullscreen individual video feeds, but also you can now fullscreen the entire call UI, too.

Chatto now uses Protocol Buffers over the wire. Requests for fetching new pages when scrolling have gone from ~50KB to ~6 KB. Each request around ~40-50ms RTT. I think it's fast enough now, what do you reckon? (In the video I'm loading data from my EU cluster, not my local machine!)
