"Truthfully this deserves two and a half stars but I have a bone to pick with the mere existence of both this and the rest of the compilation works that came out around the same time and after. All of it is wholly antithetical to the original game's message and core themes. A game that is undoubtedly anti-capitalist ironically turned into just another entry in the long list of IP being stretched thin until it no longer makes a profit for its parent company.

Even to this day Final Fantasy VII continues to endure (derogatory) with the ongoing remake trilogy that, while it has its moments, completely misses what made the original work in the first place. Though that's a review for another time on another website.

As you've noticed with this I haven't actually talked about Advent Children much and that's because it's boring. I could talk about how a lot of it is just retreading major plot beats from FFVII. Or I could bring up how the animation feels floaty and weightless during action scenes leaving them completely devoid of any punch. Or maybe I could touch on the fact that Cloud feels like he's regressed since the ending of the original in a way I chalk up less to intentionality and more as just mischaracterization.

But I don't have the passion to really care about any of that because, as I already said, Advent Children is simply just boring."

"I miss this era of the 2000s where kids movies were weirdly unpleasant. Or maybe off-putting is a better, less loaded term. 9 and movies like it came out at a very formative time in my life given I was still in the single digits at the time and it, alongside films like Coraline really helped to drive my taste in art in general.

On that note it's no wonder that the genre I've gravitated towards most as an adult is horror then. That's not to say 9 is scary, I mean I'm sure some of its imagery would scare a child still but even then I wasn't afraid of movies like 9. Its iconography captivated me, I was so smitten by these poor little puppet creatures and the world they were left by a now extinct humanity.

Perhaps too much of my love of this one is wrapped up in its aesthetics, I won't lie they are the film's strongest aspect. Though that said I do think 9 still delivers on a strong yet simple plot. Along with characters that while not much deeper are still easy to get attached to for the minuscule amount of time you'll be spending with them.

That may be my only real issue with the movie, I simply wish it were longer. Though maybe its short runtime is part of why I find it so easily rewatchable."

"Not a good movie in the slightest but at least it doesn't pretend that the original Ghostbusters is something it isn't like the more recent legacy sequels. It's not whimsical, it's a comedy about shlubby exterminators.

There are inklings of a better movie in here, but it's really held back by just... not being funny. Great comedic actors are in here but their comedic skill is wasted on a terrible script. Patty was the highlight because she felt the most like the characters from the original movies."

"One of the few video game adaptations I think gets it right. It's a simple kids movie for sure, I won't pretend that it isn't, but it is clearly made with both intense knowledge and love of its source material.

Ryan Reynolds is doing his best Ryan Reynolds impression throughout and while that can be a bit tired at times it's mostly charming and at the very least worth cracking a smile for. Justice Smith is also doing a really good job with the little he's given and his character has shockingly (heh) solid on screen chemistry with Ryan Reynolds as the titular Pikachu.

Not gonna win any awards, but I'm happy to revisit this one every now and then for the fun performances and the infectious love of its source material."

"The worst thing any piece of art can be is uninteresting, unprovocative...

Boring.

Lightyear is the perfect example of taking a genuinely fun and inventive idea, and sanding it down into the least interesting version of itself it could possibly be. It is a dime a dozen quip filled snore fest that doesn't even use any of the aesthetic strengths from the era the film is supposed to be from."

"Exactly what the world needed when it released and one of the few legacy films I've seen that earns its right to exist. The benefit this series has always had is that it knows exactly what it is. They're very well written and smart movies about two very dumb and likable idiots. Face the Music does not pretend to be anything else.

Wholesome is probably the best word to describe this trilogy, they're just an always welcome and good vibe. This latest and likely last entry is no exception. The only real problem I have with Face the Music is that it can sometimes feel like more of a retread of the original two movies than something that stands on its own. But in that way it is also a love letter to that duology that I can't help but be smitten by."

"Thirty years in the making, Phil Tippett's Mad God is a surreal fever dream of a movie that has to be seen to be believed, and has to be seen multiple times to be fully understood. I struggle to even find a good place to begin talking about this movie, but I suppose its visuals are as good a start as any. Mad God is a gorgeous mixed-media film that tends to focus specifically on stop-motion animation.

The characters and world are clearly created with real, sometimes seemingly random, physical objects, and animated by human hands that are not afraid to get dirty. The usage of other mediums at times also gives off an uncanny, almost nightmare-like feeling that adds some well-earned discomfort to the experience. The actual plot and symbolism are even more discomforting, at least from what I can understand of them (I can't exactly claim to be the brightest bulb so if you think things went over my head you probably aren't wrong).

I love this movie and all of its disgustingly beautiful attributes, from the bottom of my blood-filled heart."

"Shockingly good given how amateurish it is. To be fair I am usually more forgiving of horror movies as they're almost never given the resources any other genres are afforded (not unless they're prestige horror ala A24 films). That said, as Mark Fischbach's film directorial debut you could do a lot worse. Especially given that this is a video game adaptation which, with few exceptions, are adaptations that are almost never done well.

Iron Lung is certainly not without fault; the script could've used a little more time in the oven and this definitely didn't need to be two hours long. As well as Mark unfortunately not being a great actor, though not terrible by any means. Still, the passion on display is clearly evident and won me over by just how infectious it is."

It also has its own memory card model on the PS2 which was very neat to see. It works like a normal PS1 memory card but I still love that this attention to detail was paid for such a niche thing. (5/6)

Some other neat facts about this thing, depending on the lighting and angle you look at it there's a faint PlayStation logo that becomes visible. (4/6)
