Gordon, my Black Lab / Airedale Terrier mix, will be six months old soon and has recently discovered he loves the water.
Here’s a little more detail on the submissions I’ll be looking for at Canary Publishing. howardlovy.substack.com/p/im-buildin...
Wow. Somebody actually illustrated my "joke!" Yes, I came up with this a few years ago, and it went viral. It's likely to be my only lasting contribution to Jewish culture.
I performed some of my work at a storytelling event as part of the Fresh Coast Film Festival in Traverse City, Michigan, today. It was a lot of fun! I'm grateful to Kabie Stein at Here:Say Storytelling and to all the event's sponsors, including Interlochen Public Radio.
My puppy, Gordon, is a combination of an Airedale Terrier, which are very stubborn and independent, and Black Lab, a breed that is eager to please. As he grows, I can see the two sides of him battling for dominance.
My 10-week-old puppy, Gordon, helps me with some rearranging of sticks in our backyard woods. I don't know what I'd do without his contribution.
I'll be giving a live performance of some of my work on May 2 at the Fresh Coast Film Festival in Traverse City, Michigan. I haven't done any spoken-word since I was on the forensics team in college 40 years ago. It could be fun, humiliating, or both. www.oldmissionculture.org/freshcoastfi...
What do you get when your mom's an Airedale Terrier and your dad's a Black Lab? You get Gordon, the newest addition to the Lovy family! We plan on having many adventures together.

My amazing publisher, @vineleavespress.bsky.social, is announcing that its 2027 International Voices in Creative Nonfiction Competition is now open for submissions! If you're an author, this is a fantastic opportunity. www.vineleavespress.com/internationa...
My local city's police chief stopped by @chabad.bsky.social to check on the Jewish community and offer support. That's how it's done.

Happy Birthday to my dad, Dr. Andrew Lovy, who turns 91 years old today. I'm thankful to still have him in my life. He's a Holocaust refugee, Vietnam veteran, ultramarathon runner, and my hero.
Today, I said goodbye to Henry, my best friend. For 12 1/2 years, he has been a loyal companion, a member of the family, and the best boy. Here he is in Lake Michigan, doing what he loved most.
Greetings from the north, where I walked on a frozen Lake Michigan today.
On #HolocaustRemembranceDay, I think of my great-grandmother Betty Lövy. In 1944, she was deported from Hungary, forced onto a train, and murdered in Auschwitz. My grandfather told me of her quiet faith and strength. Here is her @yadvashem.bsky.social page. buff.ly/2VmBi0A
"Peace for Israel means security, and we must stand with all our might to protect its right to exist. … I see Israel as one of the great outposts of democracy in the world, and a marvelous example of ... how desert land can be transformed into an oasis of brotherhood." — Martin Luther King Jr.
Here's a timeline cleanser from outside my window: a cardinal couple enjoying a lunch date.

Doing some shopping at my local bookstore, and it’s wonderful to see my novel out in the wild. Only one copy left at Horizon Books in Traverse City, Michigan. Time to reorder!
I’ve known my friend and colleague @erikadreifus.bsky.social for about 10 years, but we met in person for the first time yesterday in NYC at the Toasting Jewish Authors event hosted by 70 Faces Media and the @jewishbookcouncil.bsky.social. It was wonderful to finally connect.
Looking forward to this! I’ll be on a panel with some fellow Jewish authors.
Nothing like a trip to Michigan's Upper Peninsula to renew the spirits.
This appeared in my backyard this morning. Thank you to whoever is in charge of this sort of thing. It injected me with optimism.

Some of you may know that I produce and host podcasts for @indieauthoralli.bsky.social. If you’re an indie author, ALLi’s 2025 Author Income Survey is open. It gathers anonymous data on how authors earn, pushing back against outdated “starving artist” myths. allianceindependentauthors.org/survey
