Magic is a raw power in any dnd setting, and a wizard's ability to transcribe that magic into a condensed package is an impressive feat. But magic can be used by anyone who understands it. My homebrew rules on spell scrolls allow for an ability check to cast any scroll from anyone.

Any Character can cast a spell from a spell scroll if they succeed an Intelligence, Wisdom, or Charisma check (depending on the spell's class) of DC 10 + Spell level.
Artificer Spells: Intelligence
Bard Spells: Charisma
Cleric Spells: Wisdom
Druid Spells: Wisdom
Paladin Spells: Charisma
Ranger Spells: Wisdom
Sorcerer Spells: Charisma
Warlock Spells: Charisma
Wizard Spells: Intelligence
The spellcaster can cast with proficiency if the spell being cast is within their spellcasting class list or of spellcasting level that they can already cast (Ex: If a 3rd level wizard has a 1st-level spell scroll of healing word, they may use their proficiency bonus to cast the spell, since it is within their spellcasting level, but they could not add their proficiency bonus if it were a 5th-level variant).
On a failure the spell fails and the scroll and all material components are Consumed.
This also means a character can cast a spell outside normal casting level and class.
Emergency Spellcasting
A wizard’s spellbook or a “pact of the tome” warlock’s book of shadows can, in the toughest of situations, be a useful repertoire of spell scrolls. Should a desperate spellcaster have their spellbook on hand but no spell slots to cast any of them, they can tear the page from the spellbook holding a spell with a casting time of 1 action or 1 bonus action, and cast it without requiring a spell slot or material components, destroying the spell in the process.
Should the situation be most dire, a spellbook can be torn asunder, tearing into the weave all of the magic that it contains. As an action you tear the cover or spine off the spellbook. The spellbook is destroyed and releases its remaining magic in an explosion that expands to fill a 30-foot-radius sphere centered on it.

Since it is the 31st. I was feeling inspired, and so I will share my house rules for inspiration and fate. Designed after pf2e stacking points and dnd4e's encounter points. Dice rolls are important, and a skilled rogue who needs that extra edge on their sneak attack may choose to bend fate.

Fate
A fate point is awarded through succeeding against all odds, persistence against all dangers. A player starts every session with 1 fate point and can have up to 5 fate points at a time. A player gains 1 fate point for ever hour of play they persist through. At the end of the session all fate points are reset to 1.
Fate points can be spent on any single dice roll, regardless of the amount of dice that are in play in that single instance. But you must take the new roll, even if it is lower.

Inspiration
A point of inspiration is awarded through critical failures, exceptional roleplay, as well as from some camp activities. A player starts with 0 inspiration points and can have up to 3 inspiration points at a time. Points of inspiration do not decay.
Inspiration can be spent to re-roll any d20 test, you may choose to use this before or after you know the result was a success or failure.

Now on the other side of things, falling is a natural part of getting up high, and while gravity is usually consistent, the anatomy of creatures would make damage a lot different among them, despite what the basic rules claim, and now, that can be represented here. #DnD #TTRPG #Homebrew #DnD5e

When a creature or object falls from a great height it takes damage.
If an object falls on a creature, the creature can attempt a Dexterity Saving throw, DC determined by the object's AC, taking half of the object’s fall damage on a success, and all of it on a failure.
If a creature lands on another creature, the damage dealt is halved and both creatures take that amount of damage. A creature can do this purposefully if they succeed on a Strength (athletics) or Dexterity (acrobatics) skill check, DC determined by the DM. If the attempt is made on purpose and they succeed the creature that is landed on takes the full damage while the creature that was falling only takes half.

If you are above an enemy but standing on solid ground, be it a magical wall of force or a cliff edge, when making an attack with a melee weapon or an unarmed strike, your critical hit range is increased by one step.
A creature is immune to this effect if it is immune to critical hits, doesn't have or need a head, or the DM decides that the creature is too anatomically strange for its body to be affected by such a difference in height. Such a creature instead takes an extra damage from the hit equal to your proficiency bonus.
Example: A heroic champion uses their ally evoker’s wall of force spell as high ground against an enemy death knight, and has their crit range increased from 18-20 to 17-20."
