Huddersfield Exposed

Exploring the history of the Huddersfield (UK) area. Account run by Dave (Library Systems Manager, University of Huddersfield).
I'm tempted to write a web browser plugin that changes all mentions of AI in Guardian articles to "Adrian Chiles".
The synthient site is perhaps more useful as it'll list up to three networks which you could then Google to find out more info. Hopefully your IP won't be listed tho! If you want to see what a definite residential proxy looks like, try IP 118.101.204.154
The same bot had another go through the same residential proxy IP address a few seconds later. Sorry if you're a Truespeed broadband customer in Bath and that's your IP address, but a device in your house is part of dozens of separate bot networks, all of which are stealing your bandwidth.
So, if you run a Spanish web site and have an .es domain, the faked "referer" could be "https://www.google.es" or maybe "https://www.yahoo.es". The joy of having an unusual ".exposed" domain is that the AI bots are so dumb that they send things like "https://www.yahoo.exposed" 😁
I know they say "buy stock when it's low" but it seems a bit optimistic to buy shares in a company which has had its assets seized by the FBI. I guess a fool and their money are easily parted 😁
For me, the AI bot reprieve didn't last too long and began to pick up again on 7 July with almost all of the requests coming from yet another company with Israeli connections -- Oculus Networks / Oculus Proxies (ASN 398781). huddersfield.exposed/wiki/Hudders... ipinfo.io/AS398781
Well, the AI bubble did indeed burst if you invested in the parent company (Alarum Technologies Ltd., also based in Israel) 😁🎉 The company's domain has been seized by the FBI.
Has the AI bubble finally burst? 😁 The last few days have seen fewer requests from bad bots than humans for the first time in ages. huddersfield.exposed/wiki/Hudders...
IMHO, workers aren't workfully optimising their work time if they don't cook and drive at the same time as working work work work.
I'm sure that some of you know that I run a tarpit site designed to lure AI bots in and trap them with an infinite labyrinth of plausible yet gibberish text. I was beginning to worry about the recent drop in requests but, woohoo, they're back again 🙂 Drink freely upon the poison, little bots! ☠️
Some more stats from the last 7 days. For example, there have been 1,363 requests from 1,264 different Canadian IP addresses. Of those 1,363 requests, 63.02% were from IP addresses that are known to be active residential proxies.
If you want to check your own IP address, you'll need to know what your public IP is: checkcybersecurity.service.ncsc.gov.uk/ip-check/form Then go to a site like synthient.com/context and pop your IP address in.
You can find a list of the local men who died on 1 July 1916 here huddersfield.exposed/wiki/Categor...
For example, here's an IP address belonging to a Virgin Media customer in the Newcastle area which is currently being used by dozens of bot networks and VPNs to proxy content.
Yet another Israeli company has cropped up in today's AI bot hits. They boast of having compromised over 85 million domestic devices, however almost all of their traffic is currently being routed through Comcast/Xfinity customers in the US (perhaps that ISP's home routers are easily hackable?).
It's possible to create an animation which moves between the two viewpoints. It's a subtle effect so you might need to replay the video several times. Here's the Band of Hope Fountain in Greenhead Park (which sadly fell apart due to countless children climbing it!)
Got to love a good stereoscopic card 😁 You can find a few local ones here: huddersfield.exposed/wiki/Stereos...
One of their customers is the University of Oxford. Why on earth would a British university be wanting to secretly route its internet traffic through your television set and your mobile phone without your express knowledge?!
"It is understood that William Horsfall was a terminator style cyborg sent from the future. The Luddites, who were fearful of technology, were forced to shoot him."
The local rag succumbed to click bait headlines and shockingly substandard reporting years ago, but now they've come for the Luddites (even though the Luddites will obviously be far too fearful of using a web browser to ever read it).
Seems a bit rich coming from a man whose day job is brazenly stealing other people's hard work and content. Apparently their business model is so unprofitable that they need billions or even trillions more in funding asap just to keep the grift alive. It's high time the genAI bubble popped.
Given that some people are wittering on about 1976, I had a quick look in the local newspaper archives. In July at Slaithwaite Carnival it was reportedly around 26 Celsius. Six young girls from Holme Valley Majorettes collapsed from heat exhaustion whilst performing and were rushed to HRI.
I've just been signed up for a mandatory "sexual harassment awareness" online course. I'm assuming that it'll mostly be questions about Sid James "phwoar!"s and Leslie Phillips "Well I say, ding dong!"s.
From what I can find in the newspaper archives, the earliest mentions of Slawit Moonrakers are all linked to drunkeness and its a mocking term on a par with calling people from Marsden "Cuckoo"s.
Can you get a high quality aerial photos (e.g. drone)? You could use then those to accurately triangulate locations -- I use that technique to geo-index locations on old OS maps.
I'm unsure if the supposed "only authentic likeness" painting survived but a photo of it can be found in the National Archives. discovery.nationalarchives.gov.uk/details/r/C1...
During his lifetime, he had amassed an incredible collection of "Old Masters" which his children must have assumed were worth an absolute fortune. Sadly, it seemed few if any had any actual provenance and not much was raised at the auction in 1907 for the paintings.
Towards the end of his life, he reportedly drank two pints of brandy each day. You'll be surprised to discover he suddenly dropped down dead from alcohol poisoning (or perhaps it was lack of alcohol, because he'd not had any of his brandy ration on the day he died).
