The youth aren't smoking much, actually. Rates are down from 2002, and waaaaay down from the 1960s, when a ridiculous number of people smoked in American society. The only products to go up have been pouches and ecigs but overall tobacco usage is down.

AEW Dynamite did 773K (best since 2024), 0.12 in 18-49 and 0.20 in 25-54. No World Cup, so far less competition and obviously strongest main event. Strictly panel would likely be low to mid 900s (for a fair comparison to a year ago numbers). Not including MAX. IF HBO MAX did 300K, would have made it the most watched first day watched show in the last week.

FOX had no clue who 'Grande Americano' was; thought he was just some fuckin guy.

During the Mexico vs. England World Cup game, WWE send Grande Americano and he was shown on television with girlfriend Andrea Bazarte. The U.S. English announcers nor the U.S. Spanish announcers did not identify him nor did the British announcers. I was told the U.S. English and British announcers did not know who he was and some saw that as kind of a sign of if wrestling was mainstream at all they would and if he was important the respective networks would have told their announcers who identify him. He did get a pop inside the stadium. In Mexico, he was pointed out on their broadcast, but he’s a legit big star in Mexico and really is just a guy on the roster everywhere else. The announcers on FOX in particular not knowing him is no big deal, why would they? The idea that Fox themselves didn’t tell them tells you a lot more.

The WWE board knew the sex trafficking of Janel Grant by Vince McMahon back in 2022, two years prior to the lawsuit.

WWE: Some notes from Michelle McKenna, a former WWE board member, from her deposition in the shareholders case which is notable for a few reasons. When asked if the board thought regarding the Vince McMahon/Janel Grant situation, she said that she 100 percent thought McMahon could not be allowed to come back to the company. She said that view was shared by the other members of the board. She joined the board on September 15, 2022, which would be after McMahon did his retirement and was gone, and remained on the board until the merger with Endeavor was finalized, which means she was like Nick Khan, Stephanie McMahon and Paul Levesque who voted to keep Vince out but also reversed her vote a week later rather than quit.

However, when asked when she came on, which would be during the investigation, if she was told and was under the impression Vince and Janel Grant had an affair, she said no, when the lawyer asked her if she saw it as sexual abuse she said yes, and as sexual trafficking, she said she would need the definition of sexual trafficking but later when asked, said Yes and it was more nefarious than an affair. The key is that this establishes the board knew this in September 2022, long before the Janel Grant lawsuit was filed in January 2024. Still, Jerry McDevitt in a letter to the Wall Street Journal said the woman who received the $3 million settlement was a former paralegal and hadn’t made any claims of harassment against McMahon

Big Vito exits Dr. Fadem’s office, happy with the results as he is not the father. Roving Reporter Mac Davis exits next, also clear. Dr. Fadem calls in The Outbreak, Jeff the Ref and Barnabas. Barnabas tries to claim he shouldn’t be on the list, before conceding. J-Rod beat Sonny Kiss. With Kiss in control, Sophia Rose runs out and gets into a war of words with Kiss, distracting the referee as she tosses brass knuckles to J-Rod, who uses them on Kiss for the victory. J-Rod and Rose hug after the match and are back on the same page. Rose attacks Kiss as HollyHood Haley J hits the ring and runs everyone off.

JCW co-owner Vince Russo is with the JCW Lunacy World Champion Caleb Konley and the JCW American Champion Father Bronson, who he calls two great champions and the future of JCW. Jeff takes his camera back from whoever was filming and Dr. Fadem calls in the BackSeat Boyz and The Purple Phantom. Josh Bishop vs.. Father Bronson in a title vs. title match never happened. Bronson said he wants to wrestle Bishop on a bigger stage than Saginaw, MI. This was all a ruse to attack Bishop. Lunacy champ Caleb Konley hits the ring and assists Bronson in taking out Bishop, the #1 Contender to Konley’s title and his opponent for next week. Konley and Bronson shake hands.

Stewart Smith (Syko Stu) in court on 7/2 regarding his situation with Raja Jackson and his injuries said, “What happened affected me deeply and I do not minimize the seriousness of it. The injuries I suffered led to a long and difficult recovery that I am still trying to recover from, including treatment for a severe traumatic brain injury, a shattered maxilla and a bone graft procedure.” Jackson did not speak at the hearing, which ended with his starting a 90-day jail sentence. Smith said he’s suffered memory loss and reduced cognitive function as a result of the assault and has been unable to work for nearly a year. But ultimately, Smith said he forgave Jackson. “I do not stand here with hatred for a desire for revenge. I hold no grudges against Mr. Jackson, People can make terrible decisions in difficult moments.”

CMLL overextended themselves with these B and C tier shows

They’ve definitely overextended themselves by adding more shows. The Wednesday and Thursday shows (the latter which called Mitios del Ring, a stage play of Mexican history using Lucha Libre matches as part of the show) at Arena Mexico have not drawn well. Attempting to run twice a week in Guadalajara was not successful. They debuted on Thursday in Puebla on 7/2 and drew about 1,200 fans with Flip Gordon & Neon & Xelhua over Vegas Depredador & Volador Jr. & Zandokan Jr.

The 7/1 Arena Mexico had Capitan Suicida & Esfinge over Euforia & Guerrero Maya Jr, The costs are not that high because they own the arenas, but running weekly in the same buildings doesn’t work for anyone else to begin with, but adding a second show when it’s clearly a secondary show in a flooded market is not going to draw in this day and age. Yes, Arena Mexico on Sunday and Tuesday is not as big as Friday, but Arena Mexico is the exception and they also have a much higher level of star power on their Sunday and Tuesday shows as these other arenas have had trying for a second show.

I highly recommend watching this

It ended when Sayama came out, under a Tiger Mask. Sayama, 68, has a hard time moving due to severe health issues. But he was able to get in the ring. The climax of the event was very clearly when the two Tiger Masks teased having one last match. Tanaka did the announcement. Yamazaki took off his shirt. Sayama, in a suit, tried to do his dance around the ring, and honestly, with his health issues, fans were amazed he could even move at all, and then they did a few second lock-up, the bell rang and they called it a draw.

It kinda did feel that way

The Tiger Mask ceremony was the main thing on the 7/7 show at Korakuen Hall which drew a sellout of 1,490.

Even though this Tiger Mask (Yoshihiro Yamazaki, 55), played the role for 30 years, it was so clear at the ceremony that the 1981-83 run by the original, Satoru Sayama, was what they were celebrating.

From having the new Dynamite Kid and a Black Tiger as the opponents, the two big foreign rivals of Sayama, to everything about, it felt more like they were honoring Sayama.

Dave notes most MMA outlets are ignoring McGregor's various sexual assaults

While many MMA and mainstream reporters looked the other way, and are talking about McGregor and his comeback from injury, ignoring both the morality issue and drug questions, there have been some very good media articles (ironically the best coming from people and sites who also covered Vince McMahon and not from either the full-time boxing or MMA media).

To me, this story is as much about Neal ElAttrache, the Dodgers and Rams surgeon.

ElAttrache did not write the prescription. But he told the New York Times supported McGregor’s taking the drugs and even wrote a letter asking for a TUE from USADA. He was turned down.

ElAttrache did not respond to a question from The Times this past week about why he endorsed McGregor’s use of a drug that cannot be legally prescribed to repair a broken leg. Major League Baseball later interviewed ElAttrache after the first Times article and put out a statement clearing him from any wrongdoing.

The specialist’s guidance to McGregor was to take the substances for a few weeks to help the leg heal.

McGregor update from the Times

The New York Times reported this week that while McGregor defended his use of banned substances as being used to heal his broken leg, a viewpoint USADA doctors opposed and would not give him a therapeutic use exemption for, and UFC and his own doctors backed McGregor to the point UFC dropped USADA, that McGregor continued taking both anabolic steroids and Human Growth Hormone after the leg had healed.

One of the people said UFC officials learned from McGregor that he had remained on the drugs because he liked how they made him feel and the energy they gave him. If UFC officials actually knew, they were complicit in undermining the idea that they were serious about a drug free sport and that it would be lip service, like companies that test but allow major loopholes in what they test for and how they test, like WWE. In fairness, WWE is the only pro wrestling group that tests at all.

All In looking good, they do risk next year's early sales a bit by floating a sale right now

As far as Wembley goes, there was very good news in recent days. They are up to 29,127 tickets out. They topped 28,000 with a 50 percent discount on tickets, which for London tells everyone next year, whether they do the stadium or arena, not to buy early. They moved another 1,000 the morning after people were told it was Omega vs. Ospreay. I think at this point it would be a very bad idea to change it or to make it a three-way, although watching the TV has led to the belief Omega vs. Ospreay was the main event for months. But until this week, nobody could be sure.

With seven weeks to go, I think 35,000 is a safe bet and 40,000 is not impossible. For a third time at the same stadium, even though it’s also very far from capacity, I’d consider it good. I can tell you many feared the third time in the same stadium in four years would struggle to hit 30,000. For pro wrestling historically, 40,000 for a secondary promotion in a market may be unprecedented outside of Japan. Of course that is only half of what the 2023 show did, but that was a show where so many things were going for it at the same time and was not going to be able to come close to repeating under any circumstance.

WWE can't be happy with the SummerSlam numbers

The 8/1 show is at 22,069 tickets while 8/2 is at 21,731 at U.S. Bank Stadium, which could hold 67,000 if needed. Both shows now have an $84 get in price and have a 25 percent off sale that up to this point hasn’t helped sales in any meaningful way. I don’t anticipate they expected anywhere near a sellout, but I can guarantee these numbers are not what they expected at all for such a major undertaking.

While saying the company isn’t doing well would be untrue based on sales everywhere, there are cracks in the armor. Raw has done the three lowest
