Fulltime academic (TU Dublin, media/technology). Sometime musician (M Stevens & The Ghasts, learning jazz, gimme indie rock). Oddtime artist (weird and not-so-weird photography). It seems I now have a PhD.
Going through all my ZZ Top albums and yet to find a bad one. This one is particularly amazing. Instrumental break at the end of I’m Bad, I’m Nationwide sounds like Steely Dan and there’s a little guitar lick earlier that I’m sure is a nod to Bowie/Heroes. And it’s funny too.
RIP Frank Beard. Amazing band and I regret that I never got to see them. One that got away for sure
What’s the story with these things? Legit? No name of org on it … #speirgorm
Nice view from the top floor of our fabulous new library just opened on Grangegorman campus #tudublin
This is Paul - aka Vinyl Hero- proprietor of Hong Kong’s most unusual record shop. It’s on the 5th floor of a residential apartment building and after you are buzzed in you encounter Paul and his collection of thousands of records, all for sale. A fun experience indeed #records #hongkong #vinylhero
I’ll be on airplane tomorrow while the England vs DR Congo game is happening so blasting this absolute classic now in expectation. Viva la musica!
Kids - don’t let your Dad throw out those late 80s/early 90s “grunge” records that are languishing in his attic. Some folks paying big money for original pressings these days.
I’ve decided that every time an African nation hold a major European football power to a draw I’ll be celebrating by listening to a record from said nation. This time it’s DR Congo’s turn. Incroyable!
Seems like a good evening to dig out my compilation of dance music from Cameroon and CAPE VERDE.
Don’t regret splashing out for this fancy audiophile version of a record I already own because it sounds amazing.
Have resisted the hype up to now but have finally succumbed. Glad I did because this is just marvellous.
Was listening to this earlier and while it seems very apt to the current moment I think I’ll have to switch it out for something less apocalyptic.
“History is now an illusion therefore theoretically a future no longer exists. There is only today”. At the David Bowie archive at V&A East.
This album was pretty much the soundtrack to a summer I spent in East Africa a long time ago so I’m checking out Discogs to see if I can score a vinyl copy. Enjoying the reviews (1/3)
Doing a lot of pulling out records I haven’t listened to in a long time recently. Some stand up and some don’t. This kicks the shit out of everything.
Dublin Music fans: my band are playing Curveball tonight. Passed my PhD viva yesterday so I’ll be celebrating. Probably drunk but I’m on bass tonight so that should be fine. God knows, I’ve done that enough times before.
Bowie, Lodger. Tbf, you could pick any number less than or equal to 13 with Bowie.
Just submitted this thing today. Now to try and remember what I spent my time doing before this took over my life. I might have to start another band.
In further evidence of the concerted campaign waged against the OTB in the media in recent weeks then check out these two different articles in the IT by Pat Leahy, published at the same time, but saying the same thing. These, or similar ones, are linked to EIGHT times from the front page right now.
