Lots of controversy about the World Cup final - mercifully, I fell asleep during the first half. But the real issue for me is that the BBC appears to have decided that grammar is "woke". Hopefully normality can be restored in time for the Rugby World Cup next year. When I plan to be awake.
For the record, this is how you get rid of this problem - under Messages/Settings click on "mark all chats as read". @fullmetalkitchen.bsky.social
Anyone else getting notifications for chats that aren't there, even after logging out and in again? Or does anyone know how to get rid of this?
Anyone remember this one? Every single story a case of mistaken identity featuring Messrs Wiggie, Waggie and Wollie. And you don't want to know what they were called in the original edition! 🙊
In other news, bear defecates in natural surroundings and Pope admits to "catholic" tastes.
Nope, it's called Dr. House in German - as far as I know, "House, M.D." is the official title, which is why I used it.
The unexpected highlight of my day yesterday was seeing Biff from Back To The Future and Donnie Darko's dad in the same episode of House, M.D. ...
Wie sagt man "to damn with faint praise" auf Deutsch? Mir fehlt gar nichts dazu ein 🤔 Ich wusste auch nicht, dass der Ausdruck vom Dichter Alexander Pope stammt!
Just doing a little research for my Simpsons podcast and have a question: Mac, the Scottish hen in Chicken Run, has a Dutch accent in the German version. Can anyone tell me what accent she has in other language versions of the film? For example, in French, is she Belgian? Or Quebecois?
Apropos of absolutely nothing, here are my ranking of Queen's albums using the rather wonderful Tiermaker website: tiermaker.com/create/queen....
Translation: No one gives a shit what your fat kids are called.
I've spent a frantic half-hour (!) looking for a pair of glasses that I had only just taken off 10 minutes earlier to have a shower. After wielding a flashlamp, praying to St Anthony and sacrificing a goat in the garden, I found them in the plant behind my office chair. How has your day been?
Isn't this pretty much what Melissa on @metalchatpod.bsky.social has always maintained? It's what I've always felt as well. The same reason that I prefer Adrian Smith to shredders. @feckinmetal.bsky.social
Kaya's a beaut! And that scene reminds me of this lovely pic.
Same here in Germany. Our Ginny was the smallest of a G litter.
Hi Kat, here's the exact context. I'd translate it as "I was going to have to tread very carefully here" or "I was going to have to keep my wits about me here". (I'm not translating this by the way, just reading it: Cadres Noirs by Pierre Lemaître.)
Ain't that the truth? @clivechapman.bsky.social
A minute of Moleman from the latest episode of Eat The Pudding: A Simpsons Podcast.
Yep, we translators have a lot to answer for. Take Douglas Adam's Babel fish, for instance:
Post four albums from your time In high school. Here's mine:
Just watching the second season of Fargo and Mike Milligan is probably my favourite character. I've also just realised where I've seen the actor, Bokeem Woodbine, before: he played New Jersey gangster rapper Massive Genius in an episode of The Sopranos!
This is a teaser for the Eat The Pudding fan podcast, where @mocca1976.bsky.social and I will be exploring the Simpsons universe in all its colourful and cromulent forms. Sign up here to receive the first episode when it comes out in a couple of weeks’ time. open.spotify.com/episode/4H7h...
