One of our moderators just noticed this interaction in the last I'm a Scientist Chat of the academic year and we agreed the student's summary was the perfect message to take into the summer!

The scientist replies that they can by writing up work and making it publicly available. The student's reply is that the world can be a better place because one human has knowledge about science. The scientist replies again about the collaborative nature of science.

It is the last few days of term before the summer holidays and the last thing we expected was a reference to Olaf from Frozen! We really enjoyed the student’s creativity in their response to the scientist’s answer in today's Motions and Forces Chat.

The image shows a highlight from a chat in an I'm a Scientist chat window. The student asks about forces: 'which do you prefer push or pull forces?' One scientist answers: 'can't have one without the other every action has an equal and opposite reaction'. Another replies they like pull forces because they enjoy a hug. This leads the student to ask 'How closely would you associate yourself with Olaf from frozen?' to which the scientist replies with they still haven't seen it.

It's Earth Day! There's a Post-16 STEM Chat happening right now on the I'm a Scientist platform. Currently students from Milton Keynes College are chatting with Martin, Peter, Alison and Caroline. As usual there are questions about the scientists roles and how they got to where they are.

Students are asking about whether the scientists work in the field. Alison replies saying she works in the lab and the field.

Advent day 23! We don't share the age of students with the volunteers on the I'm a... programme. This is because questions can vary depending on age and ability. You might hear us say 'if students want more information, they will ask for it'. This is a really great example of that.

Student says they don't understand Konstantina's job. She explains that she selects materials to use, the method and how they test to make sure it works properly. The student follows up asking for more information about what a composite material is.

Advent day 22 It's great to see conversations being 2 way. The engagement goes beyond a Q&A and turns into a proper conversation. By asking a question back to the student, Rosie was able to extend the interaction.

Student asks what inspired Rosie to become a microbiologist. Rosie wanted to do a job that helps people. She asks the student what they want to be. They want to be an engineer. There is a back and forth about why and a discussion about favourite cars

Iain's hobby outside science is visiting ex-capitals of England. Student asks why Gloucester was a capital city. Iain says it was a capital in Roman times.

Advent day 20! In this I'm a Computer Scientist Cloud technology Chat Hannah, Education Lead, really enjoyed how one question could involve answers about tech that looks like smarties and knitting Christmas jumpers for dinosaurs.

Student asks about weird things developed. John says a smartie tag which looked like a smartie. Tom says a plastic dinosaur that they rigged up to make roaring noises when they deployed new software.
