Congratulations to our new I'm a Scientist term winner Chloe Gruyer! 🎉 Chloe started taking part in chats in May, has a PhD in planetary science and has a love of rocks and fossils! @stemlearning.bsky.social
One of our moderators just noticed this interaction in the last I'm a Scientist Chat of the academic year and we agreed the student's summary was the perfect message to take into the summer!
Our last Computer Science Chat of the academic year means a new winner! 🥁 Congratulations to Marcus Davage! 🎉 Marcus has been taking part in Chats since February 2025 and is a software engineer who writes code to keep mainframe computers running smoothly. @wearecomputing.bsky.social
The last I'm a Mathematician chat for the academic year means a new winner! 🥁 Huge congratulations to Jenny Power! 🎉 Jenny joined I'm a Mathematician in February and is a Maths Innovation Research Associate and a STEM Ambassador passionate about maths communication. @stemlearning.bsky.social
It is the last few days of term before the summer holidays and the last thing we expected was a reference to Olaf from Frozen! We really enjoyed the student’s creativity in their response to the scientist’s answer in today's Motions and Forces Chat.
For #INWED26 we're spotlighting Audrey Rago, a Sustainability Engineer who helps manufacturing sites reduce energy, water, and waste. By sharing her experiences through I'm an Engineer, Audrey helps students see the many different people and careers that make up engineering.
To close Volunteers Week — a final thank you to our incredible volunteers! Every interaction, from space weather to favourite TV shows, helps build students' science capital. We couldn't do it without you! #VolunteersWeek
Thank you to all the women who volunteer in our computer science chats and show girls that it is something for them, including this month's spotlight, Patricia. Patricia uses AI and citizen science to analyse images of cells, showing students how AI works in real research. #VolunteersWeek
To continue with the theme of thank yous for #VolunteersWeek, here is one from the students. Our volunteers engage with students who might never otherwise connect with someone working in STEM. They show them the variety of careers available and help them feel that STEM is something for them.
It is National Volunteers Week and we're celebrating our 750 volunteers; Thank you! You know a conversation has gone well when it ends with a flood of thank-yous. Thank you appeared 8692 times chats so far this year. We would like to add one more! Thank you! 🙌
Announcing our May Term Winner Ben Cheung! Ben has been taking part since November and is a trainee clinical scientist working in radiation protection and medical imaging. Congratulations Ben! @stemlearning.bsky.social
It's Earth Day! There's a Post-16 STEM Chat happening right now on the I'm a Scientist platform. Currently students from Milton Keynes College are chatting with Martin, Peter, Alison and Caroline. As usual there are questions about the scientists roles and how they got to where they are.

At this time of year we are looking forward to signs of spring. Especially for nature lovers. Great advice here from Caroline in one of our Chats for an aspiring botanist.

Advent day 24! Merry Christmas from the I'm a... Team. We had to finish with some Christmas jokes from a very enthusiastic Physics class who had the last Chat of the year.
Advent day 23! We don't share the age of students with the volunteers on the I'm a... programme. This is because questions can vary depending on age and ability. You might hear us say 'if students want more information, they will ask for it'. This is a really great example of that.
Advent day 22 It's great to see conversations being 2 way. The engagement goes beyond a Q&A and turns into a proper conversation. By asking a question back to the student, Rosie was able to extend the interaction.
Advent day 21! What are your hobbies beyond science? We really enjoyed this conversation with Dr Iain Brownlee about his goal to visit all ex-capitals of England!
Advent day 20! In this I'm a Computer Scientist Cloud technology Chat Hannah, Education Lead, really enjoyed how one question could involve answers about tech that looks like smarties and knitting Christmas jumpers for dinosaurs.
We have our term winner! Students have given the most votes in I’m a Scientist, Get me out of here to: 🎉Paul Trusty!🎉 Paul joined in September and has been sharing his knowledge with students in materials science and more. Congratulations Paul!
Advent day 19! Moldy cells?! What's your worst experiment?
