Just got home from the first DC 311 app resident engagement session. Head of OCTO & OUC were running things jointly. A lot of work to be done, and feels like the communication breakdown comes partially from continued EOM tyranny. When she leaves, I hope good people get to do good work again. 🤞🏻
Looks like the Athletics aren’t the only team to give up on their city and decide to camp out in West Sac instead. (In all seriousness, have you ever freelanced for The Washington Post? Congratulations, an Oracle database of theirs was breached 9 mths ago and some malign actor has your name & SSN!)
That cloud there on the left is pulverized asphalt coating every single thing, living and not, on our street. The smell is increasing my cancer risk by a third, I am almost certain. Cannot believe these guys are working out there without respirators.
Serve the curve! https://koegelmeats.com/ (famous mid-Michigan hotdog/sausage brand)
Last of the new stouts from this month’s batch—huge props to a small independent brewer that actually gets the cans printed instead of putting stickers on them. That’s rare these days!
Fudgy Grahams Imperial Milk Stout tonight Cutest beer I think I’ve ever seen
Greenhouse Baltic Porter, conditioned on American Oak Foudre. I am learning new words today!
Okay, this one is going to be interesting. I love DuClaw’s Sweet Baby Jesus chocolate peanut butter porter, so I figured this odd cousin would be worth a shot (sorry, @jamiebear.bsky.social)
Feels like my meal kit is trying to start an international incident here, circa 500 BCE
I see tonight’s beer and my brain adds “Jigsaw” to the beginning of the name and Radiohead starts playing in my head.
The skyline of U Street will look so much better when this nearly block-long one story blight is removed.
@wmata.com @metrobusinfo.bsky.social two C41 buses running 5 seconds apart. bus #3329 & #2867 I know we all ask this repeatedly, but why aren’t drivers incentivized to stop bunching like this? #busDC
There is one cloud forming to the southeast that I feel is trying really hard to become our first rain in a long time. I’m rooting for it!
Done squishing nymphs—first full-sized spotted lanternfly of the season. Squished.
Am I the only person who looks at the name of that outfit and sees “not us,” like it’s some version of that Family Circus joke
This plug is a gem of industrial design. Being able to just use a finger to unplug it instead of needing to grip with the entire hand? Why don’t they all do this. I love it.
I can appreciate the need to accommodate residents who can no longer easily walk up even small steps to get into their rowhouse, but you can’t just build ersatz ramps in public space like this.
I don't know why, but I was just so tickled with Wawa station today. The first time I've ever ridden Philly commuter rail—it goes AWAY from Center City during rush! Imagine MARC doing the same (🤯). If they could increase the frequency to like every 20 minutes all day—these lines would be the best!
Good to have a minute in 30th Street, to be reminded that it is the most beautiful train station in the Northeast Corridor, and maybe the whole United States.
Your regular “Marcus Hook is the bonkers place that train and turnpike people think most of New Jersey is like”
And The Band Experiment (with neighbor Larry on drums) was fantastic again this year!
A city can *always* use more block parties. Oates Street's yesterday was fantastic: we managed to avoid any rainout and had a blast!
