A little shrine on the balcony. Whenever we travel, we collect stones from temples, shrines, wats, pagodas, and churches along the way. Plus some gifts from monks at Wat Phra Kaew, Thailand (the real-life temple from Street Fighter 2!) *Tiger Uppercut!!*

Fast forward to today: the moss is long gone (just some tiny traces left on the volcanic rock), but the pothos is thriving! Starring: Mr. Duck in his natural habitat 🦆 P.S. The little rock sitting on top was actually taken from the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool! 🏛️

This is the setup. The plants are asparagus ferns. Spoiler alert: they’re neither ferns nor asparagus.
If I may get a little more intimate, this is my first “shrine.” To me, a shrine is a collection of memories. The rock in the left pot was collected from the top of Mount Arashiyama in Japan. The one on the right is from the Venado Caves in Costa Rica. In the middle sits a small stone Buddha.
I’ve had this vine for years. It grows around the balcony rail, then flowers, sets seeds, and dies in winter. I collect the seeds so I can plant it again next year. The self-watering bottle is also sake… you see the pattern here? :P I’ll show it again when it gets prettier.
There’s also a small doggo, always amazed by the plant… or maybe just thirsty.
On the balcony, I have this English ivy. It looks a little off right now because I had to trim it, so we’ll see how it recovers. The self-watering bottle is from a sake we like, Kubota Senjyu Ginjo (久保田千寿吟醸).
This is another experiment (maybe a pointless one). I was going for something like Stonehenge or ancient ruins. It’s moss I collected from sidewalks, set on a bed of rocks. The larger stones came from a Renaissance fair, so there’s a bit of a magic theme going on. The center stone is amethyst.
Next, I wanted to share my weird Peperomia (sounds like pepperoni). For some reason it didn’t grow up, but spills over the edge like a green waterfall. I’ve let it do its thing, and now it drapes in a really satisfying way. The coyote skull is real, found in the desert and cleaned.
Oh yeah! It's actually 2 metal frog brooches made by my friend. I put them there because I feel like it fits the theme :D
And this corner here is called "Angel Island". Has a little bit of everything, Master Emerald included.
OK so... on OTHER news. I like plants, and I was thinking, maybe I can share them here. My laceleaf (anthurium) is growing strong and giving flowers. The pot is actually wood, but it's not planted there directly.
