Don't forget about the astronomical double whammy tonight. Partial solar eclipse early evening, and peak of the Perseid meteor shower overnight.
A client suddenly asked me in an email what otters eat. Confused, I replied they're carnivores. Only for them to follow up asking how long otters live. At this point I had to ask what's going on. Turns out I ended an earlier email with "Any otter questions?". :-D
Do you know any pixel artists living in Norwich or Norfolk? Please let me know!
I may have been born to be an overthinker. But it was pointed out to me that it sure didn't help that a single Hungarian verb can generate dozens of distinct inflected forms. See below; some of the forms for the verb "wait" in Hungarian.
Someone might be likable. Talented, even. They might have even been lucky enough to create something genuinely great. But you might still not like it. So what a wonderful feeling when everything aligns and you can honestly tell a friend: I love what you made!
Using clever tools is not the problem. Abandoning human reason and creativity is. "History's greatest thinkers… with AI." thisecommercelife.com/blogs/comics...
I was at a Chamber Orchestra concert today. Early on in the programme they made a musical choice which made me go; "Why would you do that!?". But then at the end they did something clever so I went; "Ah! That's why you did that." :) I love it when a concert takes me on a journey.
What is the best article or other resource that breaks down the pros and cons of Godot and Unity in detail? I need facts and not zealots to help choose the right engine for a 2d side-view game.
The old adage suggests that the only people I should try to impress are my 8-year-old self and my 80-year-old self. My current self is not invited to the review committee. His track record is questionable. :)
I know it's cliché to complain about branding and UI changes. But still... Gradients? Really? The Google Keep logo (bottom left) in particular is just awful. It's like it was made during the first lesson of a ClipArt training for people who never seen a computer before.
How is everyone getting on with National BBQ Weekend in England!? Tradition matters, so remember: burn on the outside, raw inside!
I know it's unreasonable, as most nostalgia is, but I suddenly long for picking up a tape from a video rental on the way home from the arcades, ordering pizza using a landline, and paying the driver with cash. I guess I'm wishing for an 80ies sitcom.
The strangest things can make me happy. I just realized you can swap between Virtual Windows Desktops with a keyboard shortcut (Win+Ctrl+Left/Right) and I am honestly overjoyed. :)
A mobile game prototype I'm working on has a scene where 4 touchscreen buttons are used in combinations. Should I balance the difficulty for 4 fingers on one hand which I believe is more natural for more players? Or for 2 fingers on both hands that makes combos easier to tap?
Some folks are trying to solve qualitative issues with tools designed to address quantitative problems. A tool producing a million word a month might have its uses. But it's certainly not the right approach to write stories resonating with people on an emotional level.
I suggested a custom shirt to wear for the Prodigy concert last weekend. But I was voted down. Shame. Look how glorious it could have been... :-D <> ̶n̶o̶ ̶d̶i̶g̶g̶i̶t̶y̶ PRODIGGITY Smack My Beat Up <>
THE PRODIGY concert last night in London was a blast. Such unmatched energy. And an audience mixed between OG fans and younguns.
I know I'll sound superficial... But I love to see all my games creator peeps dressed in formal frocks for the BAFTA Games Awards. Everyone looks so glamorous! @baftagames.bsky.social
It was lovely to meet so many old friends at the @devgamm.bsky.social event last night. Also, having a party on an oldie-timey boat was pretty cool.
What a week for games in London. The London Games Festival offers a variety of exciting events and activities all week. And we have the BAFTA Games Awards to look forward to on Friday. @baftagames.bsky.social
I enjoyed the film adaptation of Project Hail Mary a great deal (despite the unsettling unbalanced centrifuge scene). But I feel like it should have been an hour shorter or longer. The cinematic release 2:37 runtime introduces a lot of ideas it can't fully conclude.
I wanted to type "Hunger Games" but ended up with "Hugger Games". That made me visualize a kids’ show with cute animals hugging a lot. But then my brain added a plush Facehugger from Alien to the story. I guess it’s still technically hugging. Just more... committed.
