My view walking home of Dunedin in the evening.

You are standing halfway up Opoho Road looking across North East Valley to Pine Hill and Mount Cargill. The suburb is already in shadow at half past four after midwinter. The photo is an attempt to capture the wisps of clouds between Pine Hill and Mount Cargill, and the rays of the setting sun shining through the mist over Mount Cargill.

Another view of the winter sunset over Mount Cargill taken lower down Opoho Road. Elgin Court, a community of two story flats is to your right. The perspective is now more evidently looking upwards to Pine Hill and Mount Cargill, with wisps of clouds over the suburb and the sunlight haloing a rise on Mount Cargill. The misty clouds is nearly always over the mountain, or about to be. It shows that the suburb is in the shadow of the gloaming at evening, and it really is time to get home!

Emergency cat photo time!

This is Max the White Cat. He is not deaf, he is cat-sleeping mode and ignoring you. Although it's not yet ten in the evening, and the night is still young. He is sleeping in a brown leather armchair on an orange throw, and a faded dyed-blue sheepskin given to me by a dear friend, Grace, inherited from an earlier generation of cats. He just looks innocent, he is not cuddly.

Two New Zealand birds on my lane, in the evening in Dunedin.

Bird on the cross beam of a power pole, most of it seems to made up of a visibly speckled chest. The head and beak is pointed upwards, away from the view of the camera.

A bird on a wire, perhaps the mate of the first bird, the speckled chest is less obvious. It is looking away from the camera.

Down from my cupboard for another year.

I’ve got out my Christmas tree. It belonged to my aunt. The trunk is a wooden pole on a painted box, the branches are made of wire wrapped in green stuff for leaves and each tipped with a red bead, mostly. Wire, ribbon and beads have been wrapped around the trunk. How old is it? I don’t know. It’s ready to be decorated for another year. All the Christmas tree stuff I’ve collected over the years. It’s about 80 centimetres tall and standing on a cluttered sideboard with a pale wall behind it.

I didn't get to do this Advent model last year as I was out of my flat. I've set it up now in anticipation completing it ahead of #Matariki.

The Roger La Borde Advent model that I am doing ahead of Matariki celebration on 20 June. The bare model is a tall chair, made of thick card, designed to look like dark reddish wood. The base, standing on a kitchen bench is a disc decorated to look like a grassy glade. The pieces of the model will be added on each day ahead of Mataraki celebration.

Christmas is coming. Here is a nativity poem I wrote last year in activity time.

Even though she is pregnant

The house is full of family.
