@ireneprotest
Some things that I’m totally committed to and also totally understand how people find them incredibly off-putting: Christianity, Liberalism, Jazz Fusion, the EU, the state’s claim to monopoly on legitimate violence as such. Missionary kid.
This is like @csilverandgold.bsky.social ’s classic post but for harmony
I don’t know what you mean by a ”pluralistic church”. Culturally, organizationally, theologically the answer is obviously yes. Or what else would this mean?
Anyway I don’t get how you can read the last paragraph in context of the whole lecture and come away with the idea that SH is Vermeule in a hippie shirt. The antithetical means are exactly the Christian Nationalists’ means!
(This also goes to what you were saying about SH totalizing claims for the Church, which is tricky to find while I’m composing this thread. But see what he has to say about Constantinian cultural imperialism here:
So fundamentally, the lecture is a celebration of pluralism, not a warning against it! A commonplace in missiology is that the principle of the incarnation means that the Church will always be shaped by the context where it’s planted. SH is calling for his audience to lean into that fact.
I need someone with access to do one of the Norrköping municipal library
It’s pretty awful on Tidal as well. A lot of the purported artists are deceased, but it doesn’t stop them from putting out schmaltzy AI slop, it seems. Here’s a screenshot of my ”recommended for you” feed from this weekend, when I tried to get in touch with Tidal’s support team (it was also AI).
Belt and suspenders: guy’s in the line of David on both sides (adopted in the case of his father, hence Matthew and Luke’s begats), also conceived through the Spirit of God.
So IJ, I hear, is built like a fractal. Once you get far enough into the book that you see the list of sponsored years, you’re past the chaotic jumping around of the first bit. And even if there’s more chaos to come (which, probably) you’ll know what other stuff to relate it to, and how.
Good stuff! I clicked through to the book chapter, and it wasn’t available to me.
Sorry in advance if Episcopalians’ thing is being too sophisticated to just read what the Bible says. But what do they imagine Jesus meant here:
I give you the opening of Thoreau’s ”Civil Disobedience ”, which rocked my world in 8th grade and set me on my trajectory
