In Livingstone, ITF General Secretary Stephen Cotton and ITF Africa Regional Secretary Mohammed Dauda Safiyanu and ITF’s National Coordinating Committee of Zambia met with Hon. Rodney Sikumba, Zambia's Tourism Minister and Chair of the UN Tourism Regional Commission for Africa.
Seafarers face growing danger as conflicts continue to threaten vital shipping routes. Urgent action is needed to protect transport workers, ensure the safe repatriation of seafarers and return to peace talks.
The visit included a trip to stranded tanker, MV Besart: maritime issues were high on the agenda, from seafarer criminalisation, to abandonment and improved port control.
ITF General Secretary Stephen Cotton visited Albania this week. He met the government and ITF affiliate, the Federation of Transport and Telecommunication Workers' Unions of Albania.
