Jack Abbott MP
@jackabbott
Member of Parliament for Ipswich
Thank you to everyone who attended my community meeting in North East Ipswich last night. Some of the issues raised included fly-tipping, road maintenance and Humber Doucy Lane. If you would like to join my meeting in South West Ipswich this afternoon, please email jack.abbott.mp@parliament.uk
🚨 Last call! 🚨 My first community meeting takes place tomorrow evening in North East Ipswich, followed by South West Ipswich on Friday. The meetings in Central and South East Ipswich are in August. To attend your local meeting, please email jack.abbott.mp@parliament.uk
I'm really pleased to be staying on as Lisa Nandy's PPS in the expanded DDCMS - you couldn't ask for a better boss. I'm proud of what we've achieved so far, from the National Youth Strategy to the Arts Everywhere Fund, but I know we've got lots more to do. Let's get (back) to work.

I'm absolutely delighted that Lee Walker has agreed to chair the Pride in Place Board for Stoke Park which will oversee a £20 million investment. Having grown up in the local area, Lee understands the community, knows its strengths and shares the ambition local people have for the area's future.
🍏 From September, 10 schools in Ipswich will be offering free breakfast clubs 🥣 I'm proud Stone Lodge Academy and The Beeches were selected as two of the country's first schools when our Labour Government launched the programme I'm delighted that eight more Ipswich schools have now joined.
Following the threat to the Ijtima event at Shrubland Hall I visited Nawracy Mosque, Ipswich Mosque and Shahjalal Islamic Centre to offer my support and solidarity. I'm grateful Suffolk Police's Assistant Chief Constable joined me. I reiterate my thanks for their work which undoubtedly saved lives.
🌳💚Fantastic news for Ipswich! 🌳💚 Bourne Park, Christchurch Park, Holywells Park and Chantry Park have all received the Green Flag Award. Thank you to Ipswich Borough Council's Parks Team, volunteers and community groups for their hard work in keeping our parks among the very best in the country.
The Hay Wain has come home. For the first time ever, this iconic masterpiece is being displayed in Suffolk as part of the Constable 250 at Christchurch Mansion, Ipswich. 'Walking Constable’s Landscape' is the second in a three-part exhibition and opens today. We should all be so proud.
IPSWICHELLA! Halo Festival burst onto the scene with a mix of multi-million-selling artists and upcoming local talent. Combined with Ipswich Music Day, the largest free 1-day music festival in the UK, this weekend underlined Ipswich's status as one of the most exciting music scenes in the country.
After years of brutal cuts, our Government is rebuilding family support through Best Start Family Hubs. The first new Hub has been confirmed for Suffolk, but I know we have to go further. That's why I met with Minister Liv Bailey to discuss how we can expand and accelerate the rollout.
I'M HIRING! Join my brilliant team as a Parliamentary Assistant. It's a full time role based in Westminster. You can find more information about the role here: www.w4mpjobs.org/JobDetails.a... Please send your CV and covering letter to jack.abbott.mp@parliament.uk by Sunday 12th July.
A huge thank you to the 4,000 people who signed my Back the Bypass petition. This is about much more than traffic congestion - it is about the long-term future of our local economy. It's time to end years of a 'do nothing' approach and get to work on an Ipswich Northern Bypass.
This sort of speculation is unhelpful. There are specific changes to projects in RIS3 to fund the DIP, but nothing's changed for Copdock which is in the RIS4 pipeline as confirmed this year. Rail is protected so we need to complete the work asked of us to advance Ely/Haughley.
I recently visited Northgate High School with the @childrenscomm.bsky.social The subject of digital and AI came up a lot, so I asked the Minister what the Government is doing to make public services accessible in a modern age, and how we can boost young people's digital and ai skills.
It's also how we can deliver growth to towns like Ipswich across the country. It's why I’ve been championing Sizewell C, because major infrastructure projects should leave a lasting legacy for local people, creating high-quality jobs, apprenticeships and opportunities.
It was a pleasure to join a panel on 'Delivering Growth Through Supply Chains' at the @britishchambers.bsky.social Global Annual Conference last week. We discussed how we can build stronger, more resilient supply chains that drive economic growth across the UK.
Applications have opened today for our Government's Youth Jobs Grant, a £3,000 hiring bonus for employers who take on young people who have been out of work for six months or more. Good for young people. Good for businesses. More information can be found here: www.gov.uk/government/p...
As I said earlier this year, conversion therapy is dangerous, widely discredited and barbaric. This terrible practice must end. Now our Labour Government has published a draft law that will ban conversion practices, that end is now in sight.
It was wonderful to welcome some incredible people to Parliament to celebrate Suffolk Day. It was an opportunity to highlight the work of our brilliant Suffolk community, applaud our achievements over the past year, and champion the all amazing things that are happening across our great county.
A privilege to attend Combat 2 Coffee's Bigger Breakfast this week. It is an amazing event which attracts hundreds of veterans, serving personnel and their families, but Nigel and the team do incredible work all year round. Brilliant support from local businesses - and a few legends too!
🍽️ Great to attend the opening of the @foodmuseumuk.bsky.social's School Dinners exhibition in Parliament. Our Government is supporting children by rolling out new breakfast clubs, expanding Free School Meals and abolishing the two-child cap. Every child should have access to healthy meals.
A reminder that my community picnic is taking place in Christchurch Park this afternoon, 3.30pm-6.30pm. It's part of the Great Get Together's 10th anniversary in memory of Jo Cox MP. Come along and bring your family, friends and neighbours too - and some food!
Want to find out what my Summer School is like? Hear from the young people who joined me last year about their experience 👇 Find out more and apply for this year's Summer School, here: www.jackabbott.org/summerschool
A lovely to visit Springfield Junior School. We chatted about what they loved most about Ipswich and about what they'd improve (a lot of conversation about bins too - don't ask!). With work now underway, I also had a look at the Government-funded upgrade to the heating system.
Reform's political stunt is based in ideology, rather than reality. As well as being one of the UK's fastest sectors, the net zero economy is critically important in the East of England. Nearly 100,000 jobs are supported by the sector, a sector which also generates over £8 billion for our region.
For a long time, the East of England was overlooked when it came to major infrastructure and investment decisions. With Sizewell C, Universal UK, East West Rail, the Lower Thames Crossing and airport expansion, that is rapidly changing. There's more to do, but we're heading in the right direction.
