I have been on a one-woman rampage over fiancé vs fiancée, spurred by straight men getting my hopes up that they’re getting gay married, saying things like, “my lovely fiancé.” WELL as of yesterday *I* have a lovely fiancée! Now that I am the one getting gay married I will be twice as insufferable!

Something gay every day, part 10: my ability to post here every day about being queer was gifted to me because disenfranchised people (mostly trans women, mostly people of color) knew when it was time to throw a brick.
Queerness is a history of cool people and banging literature, and also a history of pushing back, sometimes physically, when you and your people are being violated.
I know I'm mostly preaching to the choir here, but the disjuncture I've been feeling over the last few years (between massive public strides and brutal, local crackdowns), has really struck me these past few gay ass days, so here's a celebratory gay suggestion to anyone who is feeling a little overwhelmed & wants direction: follow and/or set up a monthly contribution to Cairr ke or Stranslawcenter or ©thepert, or find your own local agency where the gift of your eyeballs or your $ will have impact. Make time to party and make time to show up. There's no need to reinvent the wheel. There are experts, people with lived experience who have been doing this work for a long time. They just need to be supported.
