On a general note, the notion that you need a top-tier salary in baseball to win or that big spending guarantees success is definitely not true. Lots of top-tier salary teams flop, and mid-tier salary teams often succeed. But it's incredibly rare for any team in the bottom 3rd to contend:
President Trump now calling for a short term extension, asking Congress to kick the can for the third time in less than 3 months and keep warrantless surveillance active for the time Bill Pulte is running ODNI. There's a clear way out of this mess, and this certainly is not it.
Department of Justice, in response to Cato Institute FOIA suit for materials on compliance problems and misuse of FISA 702, says it has 39,650 responsive documents and will provide them just a little over THIRTEEN YEARS
Tesla is flailing on EVs and rapidly losing out to foreign competitors, getting left in the dust by Waymo on autonomous vehicles, and Musk’s AI is bottom of barrel. Stock market does not seem to care!
Even when the concept wasn’t a surprise to me seeing this recent chart from @bbkogan.bsky.social floored me in terms of just how stark and strong the impact from the major tax cuts is
Warrantless searches of electronic devices at the border continuously increased since President Trump returned to office, jumping 35% total since the end of 2024. Check out more info on the dangers of the border search exception at: cdt.org/insights/the...

Last night a bipartisan group of privacy advocates held strong and blocked a sneaky midnight effort to extend warrantless FISA surveillance for 5 years The most succinct summary I can give of the proposal that Speaker Johnson tried (and failed) to get the House to vote for:

We call this the "Chicken Little SCIF" It's where they send Members to tell them the sky will fall unless you vote the way the Speaker and White House tell you
Trump calls for Congress to pass FISA 702 warrantless surveillance without any new reforms or safeguards, and explicitly admits that doing so means giving up your rights.
Now roaming in front of the Capitol as Congress prepares to vote on FISA “These are my two children and we need warrantless ai backed surveillance to survive”
