Something I love and hate about the way I learn drawing: Most have seen the ability v. time graph - I definitely know when I'm at an evaluation high but ability low. But I also have days where I just want to mail it in - I'm too tired or too distracted, and I just draw the simplest sketch. (1/3)

A graph showing the interrelation between the skill of making art and the skill of evaluating one's art. The pattern is such that the two skills often diverge from one another; you have moments where both align and you are at peak ability. And then, just as quickly, they diverge and one or the other is out of balance, leading to internal critique or lack thereof. ("Art High" and "Art Low")

The point being, learning is a two-mode cycle, and that having highs and lows is natural and expected.

Spent the day doing a culinary experiment; Smoked pork spare ribs - mostly had to figure out how to get my smoker to play nice at high altitude before the 4th. Also, had an unexpected dinner guest show up, but they brought their own food. Weird dietary requirements.

Yeah. I'm absolutely, perfectly normal about the Dune universe. Randomly wanted to cross the famous Afghani girl photo by Steve McCurry with a Reverend Mother from Denis Villeneuve's movies. Done up furry, cause that's how I roll. Probably the same mink from an earlier pic I did.

I love my big picture Windows. They allow me to see the outside world so clearly in the worst weather, and get so much sun in the winter. But I hate hate hate how many birds brain themselves on them in the spring. Just picked up a dark eyed junco, who thankfully flew off later. Heartbreaking.
