Woke up at 4am… did ADHD meds.. but so excited I started before they kicked in I’ve never enjoyed tech as much as I do right now Building heaps of fun side projects & a big new thing for @ermiltd.bsky.social Using every drop of performance from the new PC, gaming PC & Mac all working together :)

Woohoo! It’s finally ready! It’s been a mega busy getting this beast setup & configured… It’s huge! Bigger than the photos look… my friends got it off the pallet & wiggled it into place for me on Friday :) It’s so much faster. Literally 3x what we had before & we’re using all the oomph already!

Life can be pretty surreal sometimes… I’ve got a new PC on the way from @scancomputers.bsky.social… it’s arriving on a pallet (!) It’s basically a build, dev & tools server for a big project I’m working on It’s huge… with enough space to stick bits from my current PC inside for maximum speed :)

My friends doing his annual motorbike journey around the Alps & I’m chasing him in my virtual plane again :) I flew the first leg last night, from UK to Nancy France in a Cirrus Vision Jet Was super fun & chill. First time flying for a while & loved it. Great little plane & a beautiful sunset :)

The route isn’t totally direct. I first fly east across the UK to Dover and cross the channel. Then wind my way south east across France passing various waypoints.

It’s not shown on the image, but I used a RNAV approach into Nancy, then flew the landing by hand.

My plan is a small modern 4 seat plane. It’s got a single jet engine on the roof, a bit like a backpack. The jet exhaust fires backwards down the middle of a V way runner above a traditional tail.

The plane is painted like a miniatured space shuttle. White on the top, black under near and with black leading edges on the wings and tail. It looks very neat.

The exact model of plane is a Cirrus Vision SF59 generation 3.

Eeeeee! Today’s the day! My first lesson in the electric aircraft!!! I’m so excited for it! Quick shower, then hop in the car. So grateful to AeroAbility for the opportunity & SkyDemon for sponsoring my scholarship. I had a little sit test a few weeks ago, very very comfy… today we go fly!!!

It’s got three landing wheels and a small tail. It’s called a Pipistrel Velis Electro. One of only a dozen in the UK.

It’s a super reclined flying position. Very similar to Jamie’s big blue chair there a control stick between Jamie’s legs and an instrument panel ahead of him. It has the electronic instruments for altitude, air speeds direction and navigation.

It’s a very small cockpit. But super super comfortable.

This little thing is magic! I built it for game accessibility work… super fast & mega flexible Then I used it for VR flight sim + streaming. That led directly to me flying real planes… Now it’s hosting all my little AI tools & systems. Helping me live more independently & get stuff done Love it!

It’s not a big array!! Three second hand panels scattered around the garden on the sheds… they even work in the pouring rain :) I love my silly little cable snaking down the garden. Going out each day to plug into the shed makes me smile lots. It’s a bit of a ritual before I start work each day :)

I had a fun adventure Wednesday… I had my next lesson with AeroAbility booked, but the weather was poop… So I ‘flew’ their neat little Cessna 172 sim instead. It’s built around a real cockpit… very cool, but a tad sore to sit in! Loved flying with Chris the instructor. Learnt heaps as always :)

One huge benefit of local models is not worrying about ‘tokens’ In the last ~14 days my little Mac has processed over 1.7 billion tokens… Helping with dozen of little tasks, big coding things for @ermiltd.bsky.social & building tools to help me live more independently. All for about £6 in power!

100% agree. We have a few on the shed and they are amazing. Another second hand panel arrived today to grow the array a little more. Up on the roof out the way, and helps keep the shed cooler too!

Eeeee! It lives!!!! Little ESP32 with an e-ink screen! It uses Bluetooth to detect me brushing my teeth… then reports it back to my Mac which saves it to a database. Then uses Telegram to send me reminders if I forget to do them :) Very happy with it so far!

Damn good questions. There so much variety. It’s ’soft and supportive for me! I bet there’s a really good PhD’s worth of research to identify the best adaptive seat to provide for the biggest impact. :) For me, it’s reclined + harness. My daily seat is a special tomato soft sitter.

Intense few days at big events & meet-ups! Body is holding up well. As always, biggest challenge is seating. I wonder if we’ll ever get adaptive seating like disabled loos If each cafe / event space had an adaptive seat my life would be way less painful A bit like adaptive swing seats in parks

I mostly chat with it using telegram from my phone. Super handy when I’m stuck laying flat. It has named sessions, so I can work on different things in different sessions. If I want save something, I ask it to create a nicely styled webpage which it hosts across my home network for me. 4/5

I can tell it to use specific sources or to simplify the language etc. It learns my preferences over time. It’s had a solid go at every task I’ve given it. 🔌 Setting up a monitor for my smart plug and sending it to me hourly via telegram. 📸 Finding every bike photo I’ve posted to bluesky 2/5

Experimenting with Hermes Agent. It’s saving me heaps of spoons. It’s basically an open source AI model with control of an old Mac that’s chats to me via telegram. I give it a task like “give me a summary of recent tech news” it then writes a script to do it & sends me the result. 1/5

This is maybe the most sci-fi photo I’ve ever taken of my desk… I’m sorting out a bunch of hardware management stuff & benchmarks for a project this week… basically cosplaying as an IT admin. It’s like all the computers got together for a sleepover :)

The room is dark and all the complete displays are lit up bright. With striking intense colours. It looks extremely sci-fi.

The three MacBooks are all running a performance benchmark with a terminal window showing performance data as brightly coloured bar charts.

The monitor in the back shows a PC desktop with hardware monitoring windows open and the log output from a server application which is being performance tested over the top.

The Macs will all go back to their normal homes in a few days once Jamie has finished the testing and migrating them to the new Apple device management tools.

Really enjoyable weekend helping a friend with his stop motion animation project. This pic makes me smile lots. Love the setup we worked out together. The lighting and framing looks great in camera and it’s easy to reach stuff. One of the coolest side projects we’ve done recently :)

Really enjoying Wonders of Sodor. It’s exactly the Thomas the Tank Engine game we’ve been waiting for Complex enough to be engaging & surprisingly tricky to get perfectly right. Simple enough to be accessible to most Perfect on my Steam Deck. Been playing it heaps sat in the car / laying in bed :)

Sneaked out yesterday for a bike ride. Was huge huge fun. We lapped a trail called ‘summer lighting’ which was a really fun mix of flowy single track and tricky technical sections. Bike, body and trial all felt great :) Good for the soul! Back to nerdy stuff today with a big smile. Wooooosh!

Air fryer is going well :) Super lovely support person made me chicken skewers & veg in half the normal time They are going to teach me how to do it too ❤️ Mega sore from bike ride. I’ve been working from bed laying flat today. Eat this sat up in bed, then move to the big blue chair for the day :)

Can’t run my modded Cyberpunk build on the little Steamdeck… So I’ve been experimenting with streaming it from my PC via a very very long network cable :) It’s fiddly to setup, but 800p in handheld mode works well once it’s loaded. Going to try it on the ceiling projector at 1080p later :) 1/3

Picked up a 2nd hand Steamdeck over the weekend. It works impressively well for Snowrunner & Fallout 4. Not a huge fan of the controls… the ROG Ally was way more comfy… but the software is much easier to use & performs better. Good value too. ~1/3rd cheaper with same storage. Happy Jamie :)

Trying out the base model ROG Xbox Ally handheld… it’s a very weird thing. The user experience is really bad, clunky, confusing and messy. It’s not anything like as usable as a Switch 2. That’s also the joy tho. It’s a tiny PC in my hands… I can install and run anything I want on it. It’s fun :)

Really enjoying the 2DS I picked up a couple of weeks ago. Simple fun little thing with surprisingly good graphics :) Kinda like a portable N64. I’m replaying games I enjoyed as a kid (like Mario 64), but also exploring new stuff like Animal Crossing New Leaf + Zelda ocarina of time 3D.
