Verdict on the Icebox Lemon Pie: truly excellent. Unlike last weekend's pie, this one has a good ol' graham cracker crust. That with the lemon filling and whipped cream topping is perfection. Light, tangy, and refreshing. 150,000,000/10. This is a great summer pie.
O destructive lords of the hazy summer skies, I braved the toxic atmosphere to present my latest offering: an Icebox Lemon Pie. May this fluffy and delicate confection of citrus flavor be worthy of your approval. #pieforthepiegods
Another great example: Audrey walks into the diner, and hits the jukebox, and that crazy jazz music comes out. And then when she's talking to Donna she says, "I love this music. Isn't it too dreamy?" Again, just a big red light flashing. I love it so much.
I'm rewatching Twin Peaks - which absolutely holds up, by the way - and what I love the most is when Angelo Badalamenti's score inexplicably goes diegetic. Like this scene, where Audrey is just swaying to it. It's a honking red light screaming, "THIS IS NOT OUR WORLD."
Ahhh lunch pie. The greatest of all pies. (Two days later, this pie is still great)
Verdict on the Atlantic Beach Pie: surprisingly great? The crust is still crumbly, but it came together much better than expected. I still don't love saltines as a flavor, but it does taste good. But that filling! Exquisite. So refreshing. 500,000/10. This is the pie you want on a hot summer day.
Final assembly with whipped cream, some lemon and lime zest, and a bit of flaked sea salt. I'm still unconvinced by the crust, but we'll know soon enough.
O sun-bleached lords of the ocean breeze, I slowly make my way across your sandy shores to present my latest offering: an Atlantic Beach Pie. May this delicate combination of citrus custard be worthy of your approval. #pieforthepiegods
O patriotic lords from sea to shining sea, I approach your hallowed grounds today with my latest offering: A Stars and Stripes Pie. May this flag-waving confection bring joy to your jingoistic hearts on this, our nation's semiquincentennial birthday. #pieforthepiegods
I am nothing if not thorough in my pre-interview research! I was lucky the French version was available to purchase on Amazon. I took screenshots of every page, ran them through Google Translate, and then compiled them into a PDF. Not ideal, but hey, it worked. This edition will be much better. :)
Shocked that the guest star in Law & Order S9E20 ("Empire") was Julia freakin' Roberts, who at the time was quite literally the most popular actress in the world (just a year from winning an Oscar!). Then I remembered she was dating Benjamin Bratt at the time. She was slumming it to hang with him.
Oh wow, this was 16 years ago. Recording Danny Trejo for FNV. Very nice guy. He showed up super early to his session and we ordered him breakfast. We all sat there and watched the World Cup (to this day, the only professional soccer game I've ever watched).
This is heartbreaking. David Wingrove, the author of the Chung Kuo series (as well as Road to Moscow, and the Myst novels), has been diagnosed with Lewy Body Dementia. He had been undertaking a massive rewrite of the entire Chung Kuo series, but his wife confirms that's not going to be finished.
Also! My gift from @heatherbergman.bsky.social (other than the pies) was a six month pickle of the month subscription. These are the first two. Pickled garlic scrapes and pickled tomatoes. Deeeeelicious.
Father's Day dinner was not one, but two pies! A Steak, Mushroom, and Gruyere pie, followed by a Peach Crumble Pie. Both from Dangerously Delicious Pies out of Baltimore. Both truly excellent.
I was at Warren Bernard's place on Friday looking at his insane collection, including his extensive collection of The Masses! He mentioned that you used his house for research. Can't wait to read the results.
Name a TV show you're positive no one remembers but you. (I loved this stupid show...I even bought a bootleg VHS tape at a convention in the '90s because nobody remembered it and I needed to know I wasn't totally imagining it)
Today's completely random photo: 12 years ago today we showed The Evil Within at E3. Here's Mikami suitably excited.
Verdict on the Sweet Tea Peach Pie: excellent! The tea flavor is pretty subtle (pretty much always the case when baking with tea) but the syrup works well to hold the filling together, and the pecan crumble is delicious. 500,000/10. Perfect for those hotlanta summer nights, especially a la mode.
O lords of the southern empire, I come before you today with my latest offering: a Sweet Tea Peach Pie with Pecan Crumble Topping. May this impossible combination of all things Georgia be worthy of your approval. #pieforthepiegods
Scanning family archives means finding congratulations cards sent to my grandparents like this. (I love that art though)
Birthday pie came from the Dutch Market in Germantown. It's blueberry with a shortbread crust. Those Amish sure do make a good pie.
Behold, the greatest of all things: LUNCH PIE. It's pie. That you have during lunch. Glorious.
