I’m not scared of the saw blade or kick backs. I’m deliberate and careful but not scared. Two things are scary to me when felling trees: 1. Dead branches hung up in the top that fall straight down (widow makers) and 2. Barber chairs. Here’s a zoom in on that split starting
My problem with super earnest communities is they tend to lack whimsy. And I can’t be only earnest, I must be whimsically earnest.
Grafana is pretty cool, but I have to admit I have a bone to pick with them about their default Y axis behavior
I just learned we have real honest to God flying squirrels in the Chesapeake Bay watershed. Apparently they are nocturnal so rarely seen. I was planning on going to bed, but now I wanna stay up and look for flying squirrels.
The adage “if you have deer, you have ticks” is really true. My neighbor deer walked close enough to my game cam to count the ticks 😳
this poor student doesn't understand what's going on around them. but at least they put in the work.
Chicahominy Swamp decided to show out tonight. Saw a bald eagle, a heron, a raccoon, and a beaver. On a creek made of glass.
while working on chores over the weekend I did a lot of podcast listening. in particular I was curious about what the original agile manifesto guys were saying about agentic coding. I'm still synthesizing, but lots to think about.
Fun fact: French drains weren’t designed in France. 🇫🇷 the were designed by a dude whose last name was “French”. And I guarantee he was smart enough to not build one in the swamp when it’s 100F. I am less encumbered by such good judgment.
Morning after a big rain. It looks and feels tropical in the Chesapeake Bay watershed this morning.
These are loblolly pine so they strip easy and rot fast 😄 I stripped the bench but not the legs. Because lazy.
Sunday project is assembling my new Chinesium saw mill to make fire pit benches. Having done one without the kit, this was worth $120 just for the safety alone. But it was also easier and a more even outcome. I used this kit plus a ripping chain: amzn.to/3SuwFBS
UVA out here playing Tech Word Bingo in their adverts. I’d prefer Quantum Pixel Docker or how about Tesla Neural Stack or maybe Kubernetes Signal Forge
I for real thought there was blood on this log. Turns out it was some kind of fungus. I like it.
One rustic bench for the fire pit complete. Yeah that was harder than expected. I’m reconsidering how many benches we need. One suddenly seems ample.
Wednesday’s moment of zen: two fawns and a momma deer. Not twins, another doe is just out of frame.
Eastern Kingsnake out here doing eastern kingsnake things. Sparky disapproves and gave the King snake a verbal piece of his mind.
