i had to look up when the first season of succession aired because even though a lot of people saw the writing on the wall in 2018, roman's short speech in episode 6 is still bleakly prescient about how people engage with information and their own online lives and communities today

Anti-porn censorship is functionally anti-art, and a tool of surveillance states. Think abt the Miller test and how arbitrary and subjective its parameters are, and how that's also true of payment processors' and platforms' TOS. Think abt how age restricted UI is synonymous with data vulnerability.

An Explanation of the Miller Test for Obscenity

The Miller test is the national standard for determining whether material is legally "obscene" in the United States. The test is named after the 1973 case during which it was developed, Miller v. California. Prior to the Miller case, obscenity standards were vaguer and more inconsistent.

The Miller test is also known as the "three-prong obscenity test" because the test has three criteria:
1. Does the work, as judged by "the average person, applying contemporary community standards," taken as a whole, appeal to the prurient (inappropriately sexual) interest?
2. Does the work depict or describe, in an explicit, "patently offensive way," sexual conduct or excretory functions as defined by state laws?
3. Does the work, taken as a whole, lack serious literary, artistic, political or scientific value?

A work is deemed obscene under this test only if it meets all three criteria. In general, the first two criteria are intended to reflect community standards while the final one considers the perspective of a reasonable person in the country as a whole. A work may be considered obscene in one community and acceptable in another, but, if it has merit outside of the chiectionable content it will not be illegal under the Miller test.

the more anime i watch the more i think one of the funniest conventions in the form is when a show introduces a mfer who looks like this and then the next nth number of episodes are spent going "wow can you believe angryface mcdaddyissues is kind of a dick?"

it’s always interesting to go back at a game’s earliest iterations further into its development. sometimes they don’t change very much, but for me they often evolve pretty dramatically as my ideas gel. this one’s growing from its roots as an asynchronous mini game into something bigger and weirder
