Progressing on what will be a circa-1976 OH ANG F-100D Super Sabre. This is the Trumpeter 1/48 scale kit. Fit is decent so far, but some of the details on this kit are poor or just plain wrong, and some of the remaining construction steps will be a PITA.
Put the Academy A-10 in the lightbox today using the blue background, fitting for an in-flight build.
Finally nearing the end, trying to get a resemblance to the reference without matching it 100%.
Actual A-10 progress to report. I put in the hours today to get the right side decaling done. Some more to put on the horizontal stabilizer and the underside, then it'll be on to weathering. Still a ways to go.
I've finally been culling my photos from Airshow London 2025, and I thought I'd share this photo I found of a Sea Fury.
My photography is going to change. Current events and their effects on me are having an impact - and military aviation photography for me is over, for the foreseeable future. I can't get excited about it whatsoever. Enter astrophotography.
Dabbled in astro again last night. Got to see the Pleiades/Moon conjunction - looked great in this little grab-and-go telescope setup, but even better in my 15x50 binoculars.
Although my A-10 is not completed yet, I've decided to start on this 1/48 F-100D, as the regional IPMS show is coming up in April and the theme is "Spirit of 1976." This will be a 180th FW, OH ANG, F-100 circa 1976 with the bicentennial shield. First model I've tried to build with a deadline. 😬
Some light subtle weathering pre-decals - the decals in this area are black and won't look incorrect. The only issue is I'll have several clear coats over this, so it might lose some of the effect, and I might have to lightly go back over it.
Continuing to come along. Tightened up the color demarcations. A little more touching up and some initial weathering (in areas where there'll be black decals or no decals) to come prior to first clear coat and decals.
Where things stand this morning. Might be on track for decals this upcoming weekend.
Put the Light Ghost Gray on today. Took a *lot* of paint. Tomorrow the Dark Ghost Gray goes on, then probably some back-and-forth painting will be needed. Either going to freehand or delineate with blu-tack; it's a pretty simple two-tone scheme.
The Academy A-10C is back under construction after I completely rearranged my hobby room. It’s in primer and needs a small amount of additional bodywork, but should have paint on it by Tuesday morning. I plan to work on it a lot tomorrow and Monday while it’s snowing.
I also plan to branch out into other photographic genres, like this street scene I captured in Corktown, Detroit.
Finally, here are some of my favorites from December, where I photographed a holiday arts fair, and spent a week working on the airport ramp. I hope you enjoyed this look back at my year in photography.
In November, we had some nice aurora borealis, and I spent some time photographing the flight ops at Bowling Green State University.
September was my final air show of the year, my favorite air show, Airshow London.
