Question: Trump always says that he doesn’t need anything from Canada. I guess potash puts the lie to that.

Reply: Not to mention the electricity that we send to the northern US, as well as all the oil and gas. But, yes, the other thing Canada supplies them with is potash—a lot of it. Somewhere between 80 to 90 percent of what they consume. And you can track Trump’s realization of its importance almost from the moment he first put his tariffs in place back in March or April of last year. The reaction from the American farm lobby was swift and aggressive. They knew it was going to have an impact on their industry. And you might recall, right after he put a 25 percent tariff on Canada, he cut it to 10 percent on potash. And soon after, he said, no, it actually falls under CUSMA, and dropped it to zero. It shows how sensitive this topic is—farmers are a core political constituency for Trump.

A charming interpretation of true events during the Apollo 11 mission that saw an Aussie observatory relay the live footage of Armstrong's first walk on the moon. Love that whoever manages a nearby strip plaza has cordoned off the area around a nesting Canada Goose and she has a companion as sentry (I asked the tenant closest to this spot, in case it was just a traffic cone coincidence). This is a high traffic area, so it feels extra heartwarming. 🥰 #Canada

Just a suggestion from someone who's been a longtime supporter of yours -- maybe dial down the "like father like son" stuff when your new biz partners are sons of the guy who enabled Diddy for 20 yrs and allowed them to work for him and/or spend a bunch of vacation/leisure time with him.

Dolly and Emmylou have a tonne of toys and makeshift enrichment activities around the house to keep them active and entertained (no cardboard box ever goes to waste😄). But with today's snowstorm they don't have the usual parade of birds and backyard critters to watch, so YouTube to the rescue. (1/3)

PS: Yeah. You know, but, but I think there's, I think there are legitimate national security questions by having official government proclamations on Elon Musk's site, which, as I say, has a position antithetical to that of Canadian sovereignty. I understand why people don't want to leave. Believe me, I was an early adopter of Twitter. I was the Edmonton Queen of Twitter. I had 70,000 Twitter followers. I was live tweeting from the floor of the Senate, which astonished a lot of people and won me a big, you know, following in Ottawa political circles. So, I was heartbroken to have to leave. But I think that we are deluding ourselves if we think that the product we are using now is the same product that existed five years ago. And I think we are in the death throes of what was once Twitter. And keeping it on life support by giving it aid and comfort from government officials makes no sense to me.

PS: Well, my, my individual call as a senator, I mean, look, Mark Carney's paying me for my sober second thought. So here's my sober second thought for Mark Carney and his cabinet. What are you doing? Why are you giving the imprimatur of your government and your cabinet to this hate site? It doesn't make any sense. But, you know, my, my fundamental call is for the government to stop using it as a government communications channel. There are far fewer Canadians there than were in the past. I mean, the numbers are hard to gauge because so many of the accounts are fake. They're bots; they're not, they're not in Canada. But we should not be assuming that Canadians go to X for reliable government information. And I think as long as we are confusing people by making it a vector of official government news releases, we are propping up a site that does not deserve our patronage. As a personal plea, I would ask all my parliamentary colleagues in both the Senate and the House, whether they are independent or belong to a party, to consider the message they are sending to Canadians - especially to Canadian women - by continuing to patronise a site that does not have Canada's best interests at heart.

Senior military leaders are reportedly pushing back, calling the idea illegal and warning it would not be supported by Congress. According to the new report from The Daily Mail, Trump's hardline advisers, led by Stephen Miller, are urging him to seize the island.
