Arts & Culture Senior Reporter at St. Louis Public Radio. Many clips for Boston Globe, WBUR, Berkshire Eagle & others. I enjoy: Phish, Boston Red Sox, national parks, Shakespeare, BBC Natural History Unit.
Sometimes the Boston Globe is right on point! (Sometimes, like when running long pieces by Richard Hanania in the Ideas section — true story — it is horribly, inexplicably off)
I had never put a sticker on a laptop. It just felt wrong, and I think they can start to look kinda trashy if you don’t do it right. So this move was a big swing for me. But I’m happy and proud to obscure an apple with this sticker for The Mockingbird Foundation! No sticker shock here. @mbird.org
Did your holiday party at work also include annual chili and pie contests?
Even after "release," I adjust "A non-ironic, not (cheesy) Christmas," my now-7hr19min revisionist holiday odyssey. Now I'm done! Here's a thread w/links on YouTube, Apple Music, Amazon Music & Spotify And for the diehards, my updated notes are attached! YouTube: youtube.com/playlist?lis...
And if you're still using Spotify, that existing link is fully updated for 2025, but I'm not tryna drive traffic there w/this post so will skip the link. Enjoy! And please share "A non-ironic, not (very) cheesy Christmas" widely, if you're inclined!
There are going to be so many of these at the next few NYE shows. (P.S. Would.)
The premise is people are buying used books to project the stolen valor that they’ve already read the book before, and that men reading books anywhere in public is a new trend indicating the pervasiveness of … social media-fueled vanity? This reads like parody— the work of a too-online person.
Next up: Well I don’t know if my Dad was familiar with Idris Ackamoor and/or The Pyramids, but I enjoy having the box set of their first albums, and copies of the three fantastic ones they’ve made in recent years, on the shelf. The old records are a lot more like Percussion and Reeds Gone Wild 🪘🪘🪈
Saturday listening. When I saw this in a thrift I immediately placed that my Dad had this in his collection when I was a kid. I was wondering how the sound would be with all 45mins of the Fifth on one side, but it’s quite acceptable! And some notes taboot. #vinyl #beethoven #middlebrow #thrifting
Ack! Crossing Rt. 70 in the rain to interview a woman holding a “Jesus Is The Only King” sign at the “No Kings” rally in ruby red St. Peters, I slipped and broke my foot. But you can hear my quick radio report from the protest on @stlpublicradio.bsky.social today & The Gateway podcast.
