Apoaequorin is an ingredient in Prevagen, which is marketed by Quincy Bioscience as a memory supplement. In 2017, the US Federal Trade Commission (FTC) charged the maker with falsely advertising that the product improves memory, provides cognitive benefits, and is "clinically shown" to work.[38][39] According to the FTC, "the marketers of Prevagen preyed on the fears of older consumers experiencing age-related memory loss". Quincy said that it would fight the charges.[40][41]

Prior to the suit, a clinical trial run by researchers employed by Quincy Bioscience "found no overall benefit compared to a placebo for its primary endpoints involving memory and cognition", while the company's advertising misleadingly cited a few contested subgroup analyses that showed slight improvements.[42][43]

The suit (Spath, et al. v. Quincy Bioscience Holding Company, Inc., et al., Case No. 18-cv-12416, D. NJ.) was dismissed in the District court, but an appeal seeking to overturn the dismissal was filed. The suit was consolidated with another against Quincy

Current treatments

NHS England commissions the specialist NHS Children and Young People's Gender Service.

The service provides a focus on psychosocial, psychological and psychoeducational support following individual and family assessment. The aim of psychosocial interventions is to alleviate gender-related distress and any co-occurring difficulties (Taylor et al, 2024). Medical intervention is not the standard approach.

What we have decided

NHS England has carefully considered the evidence reviews conducted by Solutions for Public Health (2026) and has identified and reviewed any further published evidence available to date. We have concluded that there is not enough evidence to support the safety or clinical effectiveness of feminising and masculinising medicines to make the treatment routinely available to children and young people at this time. This includes both individuals who identify with a binary, or a non-binary gender.

Clinical commissioning policy: prescribing of gender affirming hormones (masculinising or feminising hormones) as part of the children and young people's gender service (March 2024)

this implies that the person did not receive an adequate answer, possibly due to the fact they were On Their Bullshit when they asked previously. the use of corpo-speak like "circling" evokes a sense of formality meant to cloak the desperation the person feels in once again bringing sex up. perhaps they had just balanced the risk of not letting this go and were still ensure of their standing but thought they had less to lose by returning to the gambit.
