Thought I got a reasonable deal on ice cream only to realize that it was 1.5 quart (0.375 gallons) instead of the standard 1/2 gallon. Cans of diced tomatoes were $.10 higher but the size shrank from 12 oz to 10 oz cans. French bread loaf went from $1.00 to $1.25. Watch for shrinkflation.

Now is a great time to try out microgreens. I just broke out my kit that I haven’t used since the winter. Also, here’s some arugula from my garden (super easy to grow!)

Tonight at least the raccoon came at more of a reasonable hour—but brought along three cuter copies. They have mistaken my hummingbird feeders for Kool-aid dispensers. This one got left behind.

Last night I made way too many sourdough discard pretzels on the first run before I could problem shoot. Also, I neglected to make a beer cheese dip. However, I can confirm the recipe was forgiving and they made for delicious breakfast sandwiches.

A friend of mine who works for a private university shared this this morning. This is not what a free society looks like.

Used this morning to #procrastibake and get my head on straight. Shaped cinna rolls, put some more in the freezer, & prepped two loaves to go in the fridge for a day or more. Time to read about epidemiology and pretend like our health care infrastructure isn’t at risk.

This is “Absolute: Insulation” by Daric Gill. Oil paint on reclaimed cherry wood. 12 3/4” x 15 5/8”. I love the interplay of the painted branch and the natural coloration of the cherry wood. #ArtAdventCalendar Day 10

A leafless branch is vignetted in the center of the undulating patterns of the wood below. The top half of the branch, sheathed in a coating of white, reaches outward and upward. The base of the branch fades into the background wood. Look close enough and you can see dried remnants of moss on the twig. A deep red-brown color envelopes around the center; its rich color coursing through the wavy cherry wood grain. Seasonally sparse, the Green Hawthorn twig bares no berries and no thorns (as is its normal winter outfit). The white coating of paint that is traditionally intended to ward off potential dangers to the trunks of saplings, now coats the tips of the branch rather than the base. The composition is asymmetrically balanced. Small growths stretch to one side while the bend of the branch leans to the other. The fade at the bottom finds itself dissolving into a flat gradient instead of maintaining a dimensional look. These small little visual metaphors serve as elements of meaning throughout the piece. For #ArtAdventCalendar day 8, I present a painting that hangs on the wall above my piano: “Absolute: Journey” by Daric Gill, Oil paint on reclaimed oak. 12 1/4″ x 18 1/4″

A thin string is wound tightly around a branch from a Green Hawthorn tree. The string’s loose ends fall to the side. Below lies a well-worn black field journal. Hints of aged paper peek out from the insides. The pages are dog-eared and their contents remain a mystery. The warm wood boasts two faint stripes that parallel each other off-center behind the collection of objects. Five weathered holes pierce the wood in an orderly fashion, posing indirect clues to the wood’s past life.
