It is birthday weekend at last! Big Leo energy getting up in your business If you felt like contributing a couple of quid to the annual wine budget I would be delighted and extremely grateful www.paypal.me/jgreenwoodre...
Good morning. How are you? The weather's fine, the sky is blue: it's perfect for our seminar
Last week, @drfoxpopuli.bsky.social and I presented our Law's a Drag papers at IVR 2026 at Kadir Has University, Istanbul. We talked about our cabarets, our analysis of the aesthetics of drag adjudication, and future projects! @lsjleeds.bsky.social @lawatleeds.bsky.social @lawsadrag.bsky.social
We were invited to our friend's cousin's henna night, celebrating the bride before her wedding. Such a fun and friendly crowd! Given we were a gaggle of English strangers with very little Turkish between us, we were showered with friendship and generosity. Many blessings for the happy couple!
Friday: ferry to Bursa! Friends of ours, that my part-Turkish husband first met back in Leeds, invited us over for a visit. Sea of Marmara, historic old town, bustling markets
Istanbul catchup post! Thursday: @drfoxpopuli.bsky.social and I absolutely smashed our visuality and law paper on @lawsadrag.bsky.social (people across the building saw our slides and gatecrashed to watch!) And Rosie got a promotion! So well deserved drinks all round
We're delivering our second paper tomorrow, on drag, visuality and the law, but today we recuperate with the hammam, spicy treats, and other fun ways to sweat your entire body weight
Today was a rest day, as is traditional for IVR, so it was an opportune moment to visit a hammam and have my body steamed, tenderised, and pressed like a... meat based foodstuff
Sorry about the shoddy camera work but I love them so much
Forgive the terrible video (it all happened so quick) but I saw A HUMMINGBIRD MOTH
Day 1 complete! Cats, conference, coffees, and cocktails @glexareen.bsky.social @drfoxpopuli.bsky.social
And, of course, cats When people say cats are part of the fabric of Istanbul, it is absolutely true: in fact they are quite literally part of the architecture
Day 1 of #IVR2026 in Istanbul! Here are some preliminary shots to prove we are indeed here
The only way this heat can be endured is to down tools, comrades
In this heat my brain is lifeless, bleached like a coral reef Once a rich ecosystem teeming with life, after repeated exposure to unusual heat, it is now barren
The summer solstice is here, which means listening to An Endless Sky of Honey and basking in the glory of it all
Name a TV show you're positive no one remembers but you
10. ...or CPS does not push for prosecution, in which case, gov. seems toothless / self-contradictory. And what was the point of arresting all 1800+ peaceful protesters and having thousands of people labelled as potential terrorists if you don't prosecute them? Also goes to waste of resources point.
9. And how are those messages received and interpreted? The risk the government faces is CPS either push for prosecution, and gov. seems authoritarian, cruel, excessive (see many images of frail peaceful protesters manhandled by police), especially with (unrelated) social media bans coming in too...
I have had my first experience of peer reviewing an article with hallucinated sources and procedurally generated arguments
"Trying to enjoy my bank holiday" is incompatible with "looking at the Electoral Calculus website and thinking about the likely outcomes of the 7th May elections" yet here I am
