"All the manuscript writing I did on my summer break. In this essay, I will..."
My oldest graduated from high school today. Top of his class. Full ride scholarship at a prestigious engineering program. And to celebrate? He requested that I make his favorite meal (Greek chicken & potatoes w/fresh ciabatta) & wanted to use the china & silver. Made him feel special. ❤️
It's a happy Friday when the pre-ordered copy of your friend's new book arrives! Can't wait to read it @michaelamoscody.bsky.social
Today I learned from the family that when I'm at work, this sweet baby sits in the hallway and cries for me. Not sure how I can ever go into the office again now that I know this.
This week was A LOT. But finally, a day that feels like spring!
Contributed a chapter to this fine volume, and my copy just arrived!
So much social & political awfulness so early in the year. It keeps coming. To buffer, I focus on the home front. Cuddles with the cat. A library book to enjoy. Helping the eldest finish his college applications. My book (my 4th!!) is in press. Lovely wolf moon in the night sky. Take care, all.
Huh. I mean, sure. But I feel like I was hopeful for last year, and look where that got me. This year, I'm hopeful to not know what so many ERs, surgical recovery rooms, and hospitals look like. I'm hopeful for less cruelty and hate in the world. And I'm hopeful for relentless compassion.
Resting and working on manuscript revisions & editorial decisions two weeks post-surgery. Not being able to walk for this time has been humbling & frustrating. Good thing my feline nurse is so attentive & cuddly. Nurse Dinah believes in bedrest solidarity.
Book deadline was yesterday, with 5 chapters left to go. <sigh> Well, onwards. Today, hiked 3+ miles in & out to this lovely spot where I wrote 8 pages of Chapter 10. Progress!
Finally - the rain stopped! Time for a peaceful walk in the woods with the pup before settling back into ALL THE WORK for today (i.e., 3 dissertations, the next book chapter, a couple of manuscripts, & writing by-laws for the Dept & College). That said, I think I'd rather go back to the woods.
A couple of ducks joined me this morning as I worked on the book and a manuscript. 🦆
Off contract for the summer, so while I'll still be writing & editing, will also be very much gardening. Here, the blackberry bush has two tiny berries on it! Blueberry bushes....did not survive winter. Soon, will plant allllll the vegetables.
Finished writing another book chapter today from this lovely spot. Waters were a bit high, but weather was lovely. Bonus: met a lot of dogs.
Changed today's schedule a bit to allow for extra writing time for the book. Am fortunate to live where I could write in this peaceful spot for a couple of hours.
Not as much snow as the last storm, but a gradual snowfall throughout the afternoon.
Much more productive day today, with 2 1/2 hours of writing on the book alone. Also cleared my IRB queue and did some policy revisions that I've been neglecting. Here, my faithful assistant is on the lookout for more snow.
Taking a Saturday sick day (thanks, germy kiddos). Went back to bed and turned the bed heater on. The cat VERY much approves.
2nd snowfall of the season! Thankful for a two-hour school delay and rescheduled appointments. Needed some time back to catch up.
Showed this to my teenagers, who are DONE with each other on day 3 of break. Elder teen called it slander & blasphemy. Younger teen solemnly nodded & indicated 🎯 💯. Grateful for being an only child.
Checked out the scholargoggler.com word cloud for my titles & abstracts indexed on Google Scholar. This tracks. Disturbing, but fairly accurate.
Tonight, my youngest furry baby, Luna, is sad and sore. We knew she had some arthritis in her hip, but limping more than usual led to a vet reveal of a tear in knee-area muscles. Rest and anti-inflammatories on tap. And my youngest human baby (teen the younger) comforts her sweet pup. ♥️
