Sorry, I know I’m petty rooting for England’s opponents, but whenever I see some Scotland and England fans giving it big licks about mutual support if one gets knocked out, this is all I can see in my head.
We have an easy way out of the tedious ‘football’ v ‘soccer’ debate, and it’s really just to embrace the Italian word ‘calcio’.
I hate reporting like this. Scotland deserve progress (fwiw, I don’t think we will) if at least four other 3rd-placed teams do worse. It’s as simple as that. I think this 48-team format is stupid but framing it as some form of moral cheatery if you progress by the skin of your teeth is bizarre.
Today in LinkedIn…”employees, on the other hand, are primarily concerned with collecting a paycheck.”
We can test how unlikely this is with a Poisson distribution (technically not correct, as the probability per tournament differs and isn't that small in many, but it'll overestimate and is easier to whack into a spreadsheet than Poisson-binomial). For λ = 41/24, P(🇧🇷vs🏴≥5) ≈ 3%. (7/9)
So, with each tournament as an independent event (any objections on a postcard), and the probability of drawing Brazil = 1/G, where G is the number of groups, i.e. seeds per pot, E(∑🇧🇷vs🏴) = 1.70833…, which appears to far undershoot the observed value of 5. (6/9)
Terms cancel out based on assumptions, many unfortunately for Scotland: - P(🇧🇷✅) = 1 , Brazil always qualify - No knockout probs as Scotland never made it there - Always different seeding pots; Brazil are always a top team & for geo seeding, last I checked, Scotland isn't in South America (5/9)
I sincerely wish media would stop giving publicity to a production company mirage. I keep pieces about "tIlLy nOrWoOd, aI AcTrEss", yet - even putting ethical issues aside - nothing of actual substance has been produced with 'her'. It's like watching someone try to force a Mandela Effect in realtime
Always find it funny when I get an excited email about a *second or third* season of an AppleTV+ show that I’ve never heard of until that moment…
I know it’s a temporary thing, but every day this fucking horrible Spotify anniversary icon remains I get one day closer to actually finally ditching Spotify.
Good to know that all this kerfuffle is bypassed by something not even at the level of those glasses with the fake nose and ‘stache. What a waste of everyone’s time.
In other news, I’ve learnt my lesson from when I gave Joker a kicking and Cuties a largely positive review all those years ago now.
Ironically forgot to shout about a new episode because @simonxix.com & I were recording a different one earlier this week. Terminator: Salvation is one of the prongs on my Trident of Terrible Cinema from a godawful visit in 2009. Thought my opinion of it might improve in better context. It did not.
This World Cup is just beyond a joke now. I’ve seen FIFA ban countries from participating in games over less state interference than this. www.bbc.co.uk/sport/footba...
I think the minute it the MCU suggested on some level you could rewatch the noughties F4 films, Elektra, Spider-Man 3, and TASM2 *and* be vaguely aware of X-Men casting rumours from the 2010s…nah, chief, shut it down. I ain’t got time for that.
Forest school activity using clay and fake bugs with my daughter has ended up looking like a facehugger fossil
“With all the talk about efficiency gains from AI, I wonder how much corporations would save if staff didn’t need to sit through Windows updates?”, he idly wonders as he sits through the fifth reboot and fifteenth minute of staring listlessly at his work computer screen.
My local cinema on Friday. It’s a multiplex ODEON…but come the fuck on! 22 showing start times in a 13-hour window. I know it’s a bank holiday but ffs
Maybe it makes me a bad husband that I laughed so much when my wife was spat at by this alpaca during a country park visit today…but, in my defence, it was hilarious.
This is apparently a real film. I refuse to believe the multiple sources. Especially with Jackman front and centre in the poster given this nugget...
My only scalding hot contribution to the Dune font and poster generator stuff…
I’ve never found the trolley problem an interesting thought experiment if you think about it as an adult for more than two minutes. If the obvious answer (Be Kirk to its Kobayashi Maru) needs false machinations to not allow, then the idea the premise results in anything insightful should be rejected
With Scotland hammering France and Italy beating England in the Six Nations, I am of course a picture of absolute graceful winning behaviour in our rugby group chat…
