Someone left this little guy in my mailbox. Already a mystery and I haven’t even started the semester. Also, what Spanish conquistador is this guy supposed to be? Great physique in any case.
Lloran de que el árbitro por una vez no les regalo el partido, y quieren ganar tirando una vez a puerta. 🤣Alguna gente vive en un mundo paralelo.
Since it’s vacation time, it’s the best moment to tackle this masterpiece.
Our meme for semifinals. Let’s hope for another St. Quentin.
This is a new one. Perhaps a deeper cut, a little edgier, both puns intended.
There is always a Habsburg meme. One for quarter finals.
Last night in Cusco, a city of incredible history in every street. I leave even more fascinated that I arrived, something I never thought it was possible.
Currently reading this fantastic book by @juliagaffield.bsky.social, really enjoying it, and realizing that every once in a while, reading a book about the Haitian revolution is a much needed exercise, especially when written by great historians.
Someone is unhappy that historians don’t do history like 50 years ago. Maybe it has to do with the fact that (check notes) 50 years have passed, and therefore methodologies have evolved, as they should. 🙄
A student left this in the board outside the History department office. Not all is lost.
Careers fields of History majors. Fight the gross misrepresentations about what you can do with a History major. Especially from your parents.
Spanish Habsburg cliché alert. Last night Jon Stewart brought up Carlos II as an example of a bad king. Ironically, as incompetent and unprepared as he may have been, historians now believe his reign was one of modest recovery compared to the pits that was the end of his father’s reign, Felipe IV
Absolutely fascinated and overjoyed by this game, and all the contrarian reviews online just make patently clear they are full of it.
Super excited about getting this. It’s @carriegibson.bsky.social ‘s latest book. A book about slave resistance with academic heft but write for a general audience. We need books like this one! Congrats Carrie!
Today and tomorrow morning I’m spending my time in my happy place, my second home in Sevilla. The Archivo General de Indias.
Si veis al mamarracho que se le ocurrió poner esto en el aeropuerto de Sevilla dadle una colleja de mi parte.
Universities often use online teaching as a cash cow. It seems this might be changing soon if they want to preserve whatever value of their degrees have left.
Semana Santa is around the corner, and the Ayuntamiento de Sevilla is already setting the stage. Apart from that, it’s an interesting video that shows the sensibilities, iconography, and language that many sevillanos (certainly not all) feel as theirs. The video deserves a case study.
Reading this book by one of my colleagues, and it’s hard not to realize that many of the narratives that conservatives and the federal government has adopted are nothing but eugenics narratives and policies in disguise. If you know where to look, the disguise is pretty useless and obvious.
Thank you @jendiagammon.bsky.social for the beautiful dedicated copy of her book, including a ton of other beautiful printed goodies, and beautifully wrapped. A perfect late Christmas present for me!
By pleasure book reading list for 2025, with some missing. Not many books, but some monsters in numbers of pages there!
