Ready for the Sierra Ferrell concert, but it’s hot as hell out here out here.
Had an absolutely amazing time today at the venomous snake training workshop today at our Cahaba Biodiversity Center. Jimmy and Raymond were wonderful teachers!
Can you imagine if these had hung around and we had domesticated them like horses?!?!?!
~Record scratches~ “Yeah, that’s me. I’m sure you are all wondering how I got here. Well, to explain that we have to go all the way back to the time I was just sprouting my hind legs…”
My sister keeps me up to date about the SUPER WEIRD things ppl I went to school with and/or are from my hometown say on Facebook.
A few of the cool critters we found last night on our herping adventure at the UWA Cahaba Biodiversity Center. We saw 2 species of snakes, saw 5 species of salamander, and saw/heard 8 species of frogs/toads. It was so much fun. We had some visiting herpetologists and 4 undergrads. 🌱🌿🧪
A few more. I tried out my poor man’s macro setup, raynox snap-on macro mag lens and godox flash. I definitely need some practice. I also need to learn my cameras settings and actually edit my pics. Still exciting to see so much detail.
Put out the moth sheet tonight in north Alabama. Didn’t get a ton, but still some cool insects.
Found this cool hickory borer beetle outside the building before I left campus and this bumble bee butt in the backyard.
Couldn’t resist going ahead and putting up the moth sheet tonight since I got my new UV lights. They definitely brought in more insects, but they really aren’t as bright as I’d hoped. I’m really trying to keep my setup cordless, but idk if I’ll be able to.
Peggy says it’s a good day to sit on the deck. Also, she’s very glad her mom got up so she can have a comfy place to nap. #dogsky
I’m not a good dog foster parent bc how can you not wanna keep this derpy little guy 🥹
I went looking for info on these critters because most of our newts/salamanders I. The east use revers amplexus, while these seem to be following the frog style. Anyway, I found this wonderful quote.
I had more important things to watch than the SOTU: an Epstein files production. I watched my beautiful wife give a talk, at a small local cafe, about her job as an educational director at our university’s biodiversity center on the Cahaba River.
My zoology lab looked at protists, sponges, and cnidarians today. Showing how organismal complexity has evolved from single cells to multicellular animals, to animals with true tissues. But we focused on how even protists have very complex behaviors and more cells ≠ higher behavioral complexity.
When you are completely under the covers cuddling with mom, but you hear dad petting and talking to your brother (a cat), and you gotta check it out. While staying comfy and cozy.
Tastes great. I had to cook the beans a little longer than the recipe suggested, but it’s delicious and goes great with my wife’s cornbread and some quick pickled onions!
They didn’t even have to use AI. Joe Workingman is the perfect symbol of the GOP.
A little over a year ago she was living on the side of the road. Now she’s a gremlin diva. #Peggy
