Jeremiah Johnson, former immigration judge: On Nov. 21, I heard my afternoon case. It was a family of four Indigenous Guatemalans, a mother and father and two children. They were refugees who had suffered physical abuse. The father's leg had been broken, and his brother had been killed. They were targeted for their race and ethnicity. They had a fear of persecution, based on past persecution, which the government didn't rebut.
I granted them asylum. D.H.S. waived the appeal. My last words on the bench to that family were: You've been granted asylum in the United States. That decision is final. Welcome to the United States.
One of the kids - I think he was in fifth grade - jumped up and clapped his hands together.
Later, I went to my office and signed onto my computer and found out I'd been fired. I was escorted out without time to print the letter they sent me.

Gojuchang goes with everything, part 1,000 (breakfast sandwich)

Following on, she’s only not leaving because she can free some folks while there. Tough ethical quandary: leave, honorably, or stay, and get some amount of good through. Unrelated: some good people are enablers because they don’t let things fall to chaos.

Le said that she submitted her resignation, but ultimately chose to stay at the U.S. Attorney’s Office because no one could be found to replace her.

Le also said that after pushing through an order to release a juvenile from detention, she realized that she could affect positive change from the inside.

“Wait Julie, stop,” Le said. “You need to go back and get more people out. That’s why I’m still here. I’m here because I’m trying to make sure that the agency understands how important it is to comply with all the court orders.”

Blackwell did not hold Le or Voss in contempt.

Technically you’re correct and also insure can mean ensure. English is funny that way. Shades of meaning. But insure can mean to make something sure to happen.

In the centuries that ensure, assure, and insure have been in use, each member of the trio has at times been defined as a synonym of the others. Today, however, distinctions are generally made. Assure is most often used when someone is removing, or attempting to remove, doubt.

Insure sometimes has this same meaning, but more often it is used when insurance is involved,

They are in fact different words, but with sufficient overlap in meaning and form as to create uncertainty as to which should be used when. But insure has the additional meaning “to provide or obtain insurance on or for,” which is not shared by ensure. The Justice Department declined to comment on any pending cases but a department spokesperson said:

Note for fans of Doxing definitions: this isn’t one I’d necessarily agree with. It says “the malicious publication of private or identifying information on social media about a particular individual.”

A section of the
PROBABLE CAUSE part of the document reads:
The Federal Bureau of Investigation is conducting a criminal investigation involving
ANTHONY PATRICK NOTO for a violation of federal criminal law, specifically violation of
18 U.S.C. § 875(c).
5. Beginning on or around August 20, 2025, an Instagram user by the name of @thatdaneshguy, of Los Angeles, California, unmasked a federal deportation officer with ICE Enforcement and Removal Operation (ERO) by posting two photographs of the detention officer.
This malicious publication of private or identifying information on social media about a
particular individual is commonly known as "doxing." The photographs were posted on
Instagram which is a social media platform which allows users to share photos and short-form
videos. Instagram is owned by Meta Platforms and is based in California. The post by
@thatdaneshguy was viewable worldwide. The federal deportation officer lived and worked in
the Northern District of Georgia.
