officer-involved, police-involved Avoid this vague jargon for shootings and other cases involving police. Be specific about what happened. If police use the term, ask for detail. How was the officer or officers involved? Who did the shooting? If the information is not available or not provided, spell that out.

An Amercian member of congress is threatened by foreign terrorists carrying American rifles, backed by a foreign military paid for by American taxpayers, and the US ambassador to that country says not a word in defense of his own countryman, and instead uses his social media accounts to promote his own vapid I cable news appearances, which amount to propaganda for that same foreign country.
It's too much, too insulting and humiliating to America. This is how revolutions start.
For the sake our nation, Mike Huckabee should be removed from his post immediately.

I was meeting with @POTUS, @SenKatieBritt and @SenEricSchmitt in the Oval Office this afternoon when we viewed the footage of the assault on the @ICEgov officer and the eventual defensive shooting of the woman who tried to run him over. We watched the video several times with the President. I am told the officer who was struck by the vehicle is recovering in the hospital.
This could have easily been prevented by complying with the officer's command. If an officer lawfully asks you to exit a vehicle but you do not comply and then strike that officer with a vehicle, you may get shot.
The takeaway for me is simple. If you try to run over a law enforcement officer with your vehicle, it is at your own peril.

The ICE agents in Minneapolis were performing their duties as assigned. The level of violence and animosity toward ICE agents is unparalleled. In Minneapolis and elsewhere, they risk their lives to protect the rest of us.
Every law enforcement officer has the right to protect themselves when someone tries to run them over, not only for the benefit of the officer, but for anyone who could be in harm's way.

County supervisors giving their district funds to their sheriff's department's union and charity seems like a conflict of interest.

1. Riverside Sheriffs' Association (RSA) is receiving Community Improvement Designation
Funds (CID) in the amount of $1,500. Funding will support the 2026 Riverside Sheriffs'
Association Awards Banquet, an annual event recognizing outstanding public safety
professionals for their service, leadership, and contributions to Riverside County
communities. The event honors law enforcement personnel and strengthens community
support for public safety initiatives throughout the region.
2. Riverside Sheriff's Charities is receiving Community Improvement Designation Funds
(CID) in the amount of $1,000. Funding will support the 2026 Sheriff's Annual Awards
Ceremony, an annual event recognizing sworn and non-sworn Sheriff's personnel,
volunteers, and community members for outstanding service, courage, and contributions
to Riverside County communities.

Lodi Police Department uses Raven, Flock's gunshot detection technology. I filed a public records request asking for alert data, and here's what they sent me. By the numbers, Raven is excellent at detecting fireworks and sawing, not so much gunfire.

And this process of literalization was not done unconsciously, but was explicitly affirmed by key political advisers in this period. Journalist Ron Suskind reported on the following conversation with a key Bush aide just before the 2004 presidential election:
The aide said that guys like me were in what we call the reality-based community," which he defined as people who "believe that solutions emerge from your judicious study of discernible reality."
... "That's not
the way the world really works anymore," he continued. "We're an empire now, and when we act, we create our own reality. And while you're studying that reality-judiciously, as you will — we'll act again, creating other new realities, which you can study too, and that's how things will sort out. We're history's actors... and you, all of you, will be left to just study what we do.
This statement is, of course, an expression of astonishing arro-gance, but it also must be taken seriously as a guide to methodology in the treatment of images and metaphors. It is never enough to simply point out the error in a metaphor, or the lack of reality in an image. It is equally important to trace the process by which the metaphoric becomes literal, and the image becomes actual. This means a renunciation of the most facile and overused weapon in the iconologist's arsenal, the tactic of "critical iconoclasm," which wins easy victories by exposing the unreal and metaphoric character of an icon. Blunt, commonsense declarations about the i-Jusory character of images will simply not do. We need instead a method that recognizes and embraces both the unreality of images and their operational reality.

How much money is needed to fund diversion programs and the public defenders office? $24 million. Justice LA have fought and won to close Mens Central Jail. Now the board is holding the money. Here are the org's demands:

$We’re tired of Supervisors making promises they don’t keep, endangering lives, and wasting taxpayer money. It’s been over six years since the Board unanimously voted to close the deadly and decrepit Men’s Central Jail, which is at the epicenter of multiple major lawsuits. This has cost LA County taxpayers millions in settlements. Over 300 people have died in LASD custody since 2019, when the full Board made this commitment. In March 2021, the County, community, and the Sheriff’s Department jointly produced the Men’s Central Jail Closure Report, laying out a concrete plan to close the jail within 18 to 24 months. In June of the same year, the Board created the Jail Closure Implementation Team (JCIT). Yet to this day, the County has failed to implement these promises of closure through services. To begin implementation, JCIT has requested $24 million in new funding for program expansion and stabilization. However, now Supervisorial offices are citing unfounded claims about shifts in voter opinion and raising concerns about fiscal responsibility— all while the Sheriff's Department continues to cost the County and taxpayers billions in litigation, settlements, and overtime. The $24 million JCIT needs to begin implementation is a fraction of what the County loses each year by keeping Men's Central Jail open.$

There is, ot course, an eerie indistinguishability in all the military interven-tions, "humanitarian" or exterminist, of the Reagan-Bush era. The fuzzy video images of the Marines or 82nd Airborne in the streets of Panama City, Miami, Los Angeles, Grenada, or Mogadishu all look alike and the prone figures on the ground are always Black. But the rapid deployment of federal combat troops to South Central L.A. was only one leg of the tripod of policies-an iron-fisted
"Bush Doctrine" for troubled US cities—unveiled last May. Wielded into action with equally impressive speed, for example, was an unprecedented taskforce of federal law-enforcement agencies mandated to track down and prosecute riot felonies. The large FBI and INS components of the task force were later reorganized as permanent anti-gang units in line with Attorney General Barr's dictum that the Crips and Bloods, together with criminal illegal aliens, have replaced Communism as the major domestic subversive threat. This is also the official legitimation for the third leg of the tripod: the "Weed and Seed" program that ties neighborhood-level federal spending (the "seeds") to active collaboration with the war against the gangs (the "weeds").
If, in tendency, "Weed and Seed" prefigures the ultimate absorption of the welfare stare by the police state, the parsimony of federal seed money has ensured that the actual results are less dramatic. Non-law-enforcement aid to Los Angeles has amounted to scarcely more than smoke and mirrors. A month after the riot, for example, HUD Secretary (and presumed 1996 Republican presidential front-runner) Jack Kemp showed up with a fat press entourage at Nickerson Gardens Housing Project in Watts to announce that his department was giving Los Angeles $137 million in housing assistance.
