My #TopShelfFriday has given me hours of fun reading over the past few weeks: the Bronze Age Teen Titans Omnibus, printed on the same high-quality newsprint stock DC used on the recent Warlord Omnibus. The vintage paper stock really suits the artwork of Nick Cardy.
Agree that this is a great show, and it can be heard on this, um, grey market CD
No disrespect to Charlie and Bill, but the rhythm section of Darryl Jones and Steve Jordan crushes it on this record, and to have two musicians of that caliber at this late stage of the game is a big part of why this album sounds so fresh and rocking
“Our Man” recalls the Mindless Ones from Dr. Strange. It couldn’t be clearer that Ditko was drawn to his rigid Objective philosophy precisely because he was so drawn to the misfit, the marginalized, the misunderstood. You’re right, he was good at drawing abstract art even as he professed to hate it.
There's an issue or two of Thor inked by Bill Everett, and that pairing of Kirby and Everett is pretty great
The great what-could-have-been of Kirby's Thor is Fantastic Four #73, inked of course by Joltin' Joe
To me, one of the tells that a page was inked by Colletta is the way he delineates women's hair with what is pretty clearly a fine-tipped pen
I just recently read the first issue of the series, and it does lean into anti-nuclear sentiment, even though it was published a year or so before Three Mile Island.
