SGI Espressigo: Indigo workstation => espresso machine. I bought one for home, where we had a meeting iof Hot Chips program committee, including HP's Ruby Lee. After, I said SGI workstations could do things no HP workstation could ever try. She objected, so I took her to the pantry & showed her.

SGI Espressigo, an Indigo workstation case turned into espresso machine by SGI Munich office, often found in other SGI offices, and a few of us bought them for home.

1/ Indeed, fine performance... of course I might be biased, as I worked at SGI, whose computers ILM used for many of the dinosaurs and this was milestone in CGI. We rented a movie theatre for early showing. I still have the special T-shirt "Building a better dinosaur" with Jurassic park logo.

No reason for *climate scientists* to look at those , but 2011-12 I was doing a follow-the-money deep dive into Heartland Institute & related thinktanks Turns out there are 79 hits for NIPCC in www.desmog.com/wp-content/u... and pp.34-36 looked at funding & (mostly fakexpert) NIPCC contributors.

"Nature certainly did not think much of NIPCC, §N.1. Fine scientists have already pointed out numerous flaws so this report need not debunk it yet again, but focus on the background. NIPCC seems a group of coal industry staff, economists, retired meteorologists, geologists, etc, with strong ideological views, but rarely much climate science competence. A few have made money from climate anti-science. Others may be ecstatic that anyone would put their name on these reports.

The list has few actual climate scientists, as shown by the small number of relevant peer-reviewed papers, often quickly refuted, if anyone cared. NIPCC membership has no resemblance to normal science. For example, AGU is ~¼ female, but only 2 of 56 in NIPCC, Diane Bast and Susan Crockford. The demographics are relevant and increasingly studied."

Unlike #1 Tweeden, #5 Kemplin, & almost certainly #2 Menz, #8 Dupuy was a liberal journalist, but this may be a bit dated: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tina_Du... Her work in listed publications seemed to have dried up well before 2017 Franken piece. Life as freelance writer can be hard, publicity helps.

A liberal journalist named Tina Dupuy said that she had askedFranken to pose with her for a photograph. Minutes later, she posted the image on the Web site FishbowlLA, saying, “Totally stoked. So suck it.” Dupuy told me that, despite her apparent excitement at the time, it had been an upsetting encounter; Franken, she said, had squeezed her waist in a creepy way for several seconds. “It wasn’t violent rape,” she acknowledged. “But it was, like, ‘Ick!’ ” She told the press that, at the time, she had put on weight, and felt uneasy about her body. A. J. Goodman, who was with Franken when the photograph was taken, said, “She asked for the picture, put her arm around his shoulder—what was he supposed to do? Original Atlantic photo, my 2018 analysis using eyedropper to check pixels, finding that red mosly disappeared, because Franken's arm as in front. In 2019, Kevin Drum did better, brightening the dim photo, hich made arm position even clearer.

Her 2nd party post focused even more on Franken & proved her defamatory allegation false. web.archive.org/web/20090122... She was not humiliated, but excited. Via idioms.thefreedictionary.com/suck+it "suck it" = "An expression of condescension, especially following a triumph over someone else".

Don't ask how we ended up with these people. Let's just say security isn't that tight.

First in the photo above is Al Franken. Yes, the soon-to-be Senator-Elect Al Franken.

Also spotted was Arianna Huffington, Norman Lear, Congressman Paul Hoades (D-New Hampshire), Baratunde Thurston of The Onion and several hundred other people.

We saw one woman's boa catch on fire - so that's the sign of a real party. We accosted Congressman Barney Frank who was a dismissive to us. Which from what we've heard is only surprising if one is from Los Angeles...ahem.

Another notable was Ben Fishel, who hosts the Media Matters Minute radio segment, he is Andy Rooney's grandson. And yes, because we know you're super curious...Ben's eyebrows are normal.

The Internet remembers, Lies often caught.
Dubious.She crashed party & mostly named celebrities. During party, her 2 blog posts focused on Franken, 1st with picture of him, 2nd with her arm over shoulder. Her Facebook & blogs often show pictures with celebrities, like Nate Silver, Michael Steele(RNC), Jack Abramoff, Joe Trippi. Foster mom’s heroes??

She wrote 2,170 words, 26 at left = 1.1%.
False. Few would think hand on waist a grope, after she asks for photo, throws arm over him, but her oddly low-res picture contradicts even waist claim, when checked carefully versus clothing in other photo that night.

False. She was “totally stoked” to have scored celebrity picture with Franken , bragged via slang “suck…

#8 Dupuy story, written by her, not reporter. www.theatlantic.com/politics/arc... Most of story just repeated other 7 allegations, but her claim was a Lie, proved by photo itself, her blog posts (she bragged of getting photo) and others over next yr. The Atlantic whitened photo => creepy.

For some reason, The Atlantic whitened Franken's face and hands.

CNN Kemplin story:
"Chambers said she confided in him about having been inappropriately touched by a member of their unit, though she did not divulge to him the full details at the time. An investigation was launched into Kemplin’s complaint of “indecent assault.”

According to documents viewed by CNN, Kemplin was eventually told that while the whole incident was “totally inappropriate behavior,” the accused specialist was not guilty of “indecent assault.” In addition, she was told that she was “responsible” for having allowed the male specialist to get close to her.

“I was really pissed off. It was not right,” Chambers said. “My reaction was: when is it ever the victim’s fault?”

He added: “I believe Stephanie. I believe that something did happen. I’ve seen sexual assault victims before in my line of work and the trauma that they face and there’s no doubt in my mind that something happened.”"

Kemplin talked to Tweeden 3 times before Tweeden asked to connect her to CNN reporter. Tweeden of course had every reason to see Franken gone before testifying under oath. From the CNN story: www.cnn.com/2017/11/30/p...

(J)A Tweeter found better photos in other media. Franken sat behind red table signing autographs, NOT doing photos, but she wanted one, so hopped up, sat on table (hard to make claimed turn), leaned in, happy smile, no grope ...but CNN used photo that cropped table & soldiers, unknown who did.

She claimed he cupped her breast for 5-10 seconds before she turned for smiling picture. She knew she was sitting/leaning across table. He could barely get arm around back, much less reach breast. Reporters ignored table.

#5 Kemplin (only primary vote was R in 2016, said she voted for Trump, not Dem) is saddest case, traumatized by assault before meeting Franken. From CNN photo, arm position, visibility to photographer, PTSD/memory problems *she* told CNN, I first(K) thought Imagination/malleable memory, sad.

Marcotte did, in 2017, and in 2019 wrote as below. "At best..." is very weird, because it was quite clear Tweeden's whole story was a Lie, for which Jane gave many examples. But let's go on to the other 7, all of which Marcotte treated as absolutely true evidence of Deliberate sexual misconduct.

Mayer presents a strong case that Tweeden’s accusations are false. At best they were result of a miscommunication but more likely they reflect the fact that Tweeden is a right-wing operative who has, in the past, elevated the false accusation that Barack Obama faked his birth certificate.

5/ Franken (top honoree) had been talking to Mick Foley in far corner of VIP room's entrance, at other end of building, floor below ceremony ballroom. She & then-boyfriend had to find AF there ... 2500 miles from her home, at event that during 2006-17 only mentioned her attendance in 2009.

2/ As noted here, top investigative journalists don't just rehash already-public info & she already had my 500+ research tweets from 2018 (+ more unpublished notes). Hence she focused on the few complainants who'd talk to her on record ($7,8) or where witnesses findable (#1,6,8), plus Senators.

Jane Mayer has a strong record of tenacious, meticulous, honest investigative journalism, including major sexual misconduct reports, well before #MeToo term widely used. Her breadth of contacts, ability to get interviews & unearth details astonishes me. Agreed 100%: decades ago I did an interview with WSJ, fine article above fold in 2nd section, loved it ... until I found voicemails from CEO&CFO asking why company stock had dropped 15% in hour or two & analysts were calling. Great article, bad headline, at time not funny.
