Het verschil lijkt nu wel dat de originele pijpleidingstraat fossiele grondstoffen (o.a. ethyleen en propaan) ging vervoeren en "later" voor duurzame moleculen kon omgebouwd worden. Nu lijkt het vanaf de start rond die laatste te draaien. www.nieuwsblad.be/binnenland/k...

A new record power price for Belgium? The previous record dates from 17 August 2022, if I’m not mistaken, when we hit €750/MWh. Possible reasons: increased consumption due to air conditioning, no wind, and (French) nuclear power stations having to scale back their output because of the heat.
Cool (pun intended) innovation for renters and flats: portable split-unit AC. Quieter and much more efficient than traditional monoblocs with an air hose, and therefore considerably cheaper to run. It's essentially a heat pump, so it can also provide heating. Also available in Belgium!

An SPV will be established for the construction and operation, which will be wholly owned by EDF. The French government (via Caisse des Dépôts et Consignations) will provide 60% of the financing via a government loan at 0% interest during construction, and 3% for the 35 years thereafter. /
The first EPR2, Penly, is due to come online in 2038 and is expected to cost between €25 and €30 billion (2020). Thereafter, a new plant is due to be added every 12 to 18 months, around €5 billion cheaper. This equates to €7,280/kW (2020) in construction costs, excluding financing costs. /
Battery storage is clearly starting to help, but for now it's still mostly fossil peakers picking up the slack (Belgian production mix as proxy). We are a long way from a California-style situation where batteries are meaningfully pushing gas peakers out of the evening peak, but we're getting there.
Pinning down who exactly drives this evening peak is tricky with a limited dataset (Whit Monday). But France and Belgium do show a noticeably different consumption profile this week compared with a colder week, while Germany much less so. n=1, so treat this as suggestive rather than conclusive. /
Has the infamous "AC peak" returned? Preliminary analysis of CWE wholesale electricity prices (BE spot price as proxy) suggests so. Compared to previous week, prices show a distinct peak when the sun sets but AC units are still running. 🧵

How is my 440Wp plug-in solar panel performing after exactly one year of use? It generated 215 kWh, compensating 8% of my consumption. Based on a volumetric energy cost of 22 €c/kWh, this represents a saving of €47, bringing the payback period to 3 years.
