But your founders would certainly have been disappointed with American exceptionalism today- an exception among rich countries for its poor global standing on most rankings, particularly democracy and governance. And - spoiler alert- it’s got worse under Trump part 2.

Doesn’t the OECD use 50% of median income? Its latest data shows UK only just above OECD average on about 12% and Netherlands around 8%.

It’s not a socialist model. But here is where Sweden and those other terrible social democracies Denmark & Norway rank in global indexes on all-round prosperity (including incomes, health, education, safety etc,), social mobility, democracy and rule of law, compared with USA. Speaks for itself.

Yes Russia broke that agreement. Can’t see any commitment that the others broke. They were careful to keep them minimal.
Mearsheimer also professes to analyse history in the sense that his models purport to extrapolate from historical evidence. But (like Sachs) his grip on Russian and Soviet history is fragile. Exhibit 1: his 2015 article on Ukraine. Wrong on all 3 counts about invasions of Russia.
