Lately I've been thinking a lot about iconic freeware and shareware games of my childhood, and trying to track them down. Today I remembered Krypton Egg. I didn't have a copy of this myself, but I could play it on a PC that belonged to my mother's best friend. It seemed magical.
Sam Neill was one of those actors where every moment you got to see him on screen felt like a privilege. Nobody was ever more compelling and magnetic. His performance in In the Mouth of Madness, one of the smartest films ever made, is one of the greatest cinematic delights.
When you're done with Azathoth Blues, check out Gospels of the Flood!
The last episode of season one is now available. What a journey it's been. I don't even know what to say. This is one of the best experiences I've ever had, telling this story with an amazing group of talented people. I can only hope you check it out and see what we created.
Episode 9 of Azathoth Blues, entitled Recursion 137, is now available in all the places where podcasts are peddled. Recordings inside recordings inside other recordings... we're getting closer to the truth now.
Lately it's become fashionable (again) for warmongers to pretend to be Christian. But Christ taught a specific set of ethical principles which is pretty remarkable in how radical it is: love your enemies and do good for them. If they harm you, do not harm them in return.
Episode 7 is out. If you've been following the show, the title should tell you that shit is about to get real. If you haven't - why not check out a unique work of cosmic horror noir? There really isn't anything quite like it.
Episode 6 of Azathoth Blues, The Anticipation of Grief, is now available in all the usual places. As we move into the second half of our first season, I can only repeat that independent art is hard to make and even harder to promote, and without your help we don't stand a chance.
For anyone who missed it - Azathoth Blues is some of the most complex, ambitious work I've ever done. It's not a game, but if you like my writing, why not try it out? Just look for it on your podcasting app of choice, including Spotify - or YouTube, or even Audible.
Episode 5 of Azathoth Blues is now available. "New clues and revelations lead the trio deeper into the labyrinth. A picture begins to form. But the deeper you go, the more dangerous things become." AzathothBlues.com
Needed a break from work, made a list. Like all lists, it's absurd, but indicative.
Episode 4 of Azathoth Blues is now available wherever you get your podcasts. A strange murder in the Sagittarius Hotel reveals some new connections. (Yes, I'm being cryptic.) Featuring the delightful and formidable Catherine Siggins.
Episode 3 of Azathoth Blues is now available in all the usual podcasty places. "The body of a young man is found discarded in the street, his death caused by an unknown poison. The trio looks for answers in the invisible world of poverty and exploitation at the edges of society."
The second episode of Azathoth Blues, The Minotaur, is now available on all podcasting platforms. It will premiere on YouTube later today. If you like what we're doing with this show, please rate it, review it, and let your friends know about it.
One of my favourite parts of Midnight in Babylon is Benjamin Kroger's monologue as Sherman Perry. Recording it was a profound experience. We had a long personal conversation, then he did ONE take, and it was so full of truth and pain that we didn't need another.
MIDNIGHT IN BABYLON, the first episode of AZATHOTH BLUES, is now out on all major podcast platforms, including Spotify. A dark journey into paranoia, conspiracy, murder & ritual. How do you fight back in a world that seems increasingly insane?
Chris Christodoulou working with the De Profundis Ensemble to record music for Azathoth Blues. This gives you a small hint of the amount of effort that went into creating this show. It's really something special.
The Federation was anything but neoliberal; it was DS9 that was neoliberal, the New Labour of Star Trek. Contrary to what people say it didn't challenge the ideals of the Federation but change the show's philosophical premise so the original Federation was no longer itself.
This is a classic entry into the genre of writing I call "There aren't enough women in the SS." Demanding a more representative ruling class instead of demanding a world where all human beings are free. The seat at the table is never for you.
Very grateful that Talos is the kind of game where the characters can write poetry and the audience can appreciate it. www.reddit.com/r/TheTalosPr...
The ultimate postmodern artwork: a hollow shell that means nothing and moves no-one, but "sparks conversation." This really is the apotheosis of everything critics and academics defended for five decades: no author, no vision, no meaning. Just an IP with a human face.
I've had Master of Orion II installed since it came out, and I've almost never destroyed a planet. Nor do I play it for ruthless dominance. Combat is the least interesting part of the game for me. I love exploring, building multi-species societies and winning through diplomacy.
A few weeks ago he had lost his mother, had a huge thorn in his eye, and was screaming in fear under a car. Now he is the lord of his house, always playing, always safe. Maybe sometimes good things do happen.
