I’m honoured (and shocked) to be nominated by students for Inspirational Teacher of the Year at the 2025 University of Lincoln SU Awards, alongside two colleagues from across the University of Lincoln. Huge congrats to Nick Fotou for winning, and Valentina Sclafani who received high commendation.

We had a great turnout, the audience were passionate and awesome, our hosts are exceptionally welcoming, the questions and contributions from everyone there has inspired us to keep digging.
It’s a small piece of Lincolnshire (and indeed, British history) that deserves far more recognition, and has the potential to connect with other small, coastal, and rural communities confronting a similar decision. We're now on with recording oral histories from people who took part then.
On Tuesday night we three historians from the University of Lincoln talked about a particularly interesting precursor – the successful campaign waged by the Lincolnshire village of Fulbeck in 1986/1987 to resist plans to bury nuclear waste there.
However, the Theddlethorpe community has responded with some fantastic initiatives to educate and raise awareness about the issue, foster community cohesion, and document the opinions of those affected by the issue. Their power and expression of democracy is a joy to behold.
For the last few years Theddlethorpe has been under siege after the government announced it would explore plans to bury nuclear waste under the Lincolnshire coast. Residents are naturally scared, annoyed, and frustrated at being left in limbo for so long.
We’re exploring the history of Lincolnshire communities’ successful resistance against plans to dump nuclear waste in the area. Through ‘Radioactive Lincolnshire!’ we want to record and emphasise the importance of community involvement in nuclear power planning and waste management.
‘Radioactive Lincolnshire!’ is underway… We had a fantastic night in Theddlethorpe, Lincolnshire on Tuesday as Tom Bishop, Adam Page, and I gave the first in a series of co-created talks as part of our ongoing community heritage initiative – ‘Radioactive Lincolnshire!’
