“ I am very kind but extremely firm”. A great blueprint for parenthood from Mary Poppins. My children seeing it today for their first time. 62 years old now.
Saw Obsession last night. I absolutely loved it. Such a simple idea but excellently executed underpinned by an outstanding lead female performance. Chilling , scary , reality based horror that also so very very sad. 9/10
Rewatched one of my favorite films today Eric Rohmers Claire’s Knee. Now 56 years old it’s just so beautifully rich with funny dialogue , stunning scenery and expertly crafted a simple story that demonstrates directorial genius. I just adore it.
really enjoyed this folk horror. Made in West Cork. Love Folk Horror ,was impressed by how original it was. Significant step up from directors last film Oddity itself a very original film. Great to see more new films instead of endless retreads of old horror movies remade for no one in particular.
Happy Father’s Day. The honor of my life is to be a father and traverse these roads holding tiny hands and watching the steps of tiny feet. Life finally makes sense.
So happy to be at the Launch of Mona Lynch’s debut poetry collection at Cork City Library today. Mona is such a wonderful poet and writer , and a fantastic person. Her debut collection published at young old age of 85. ❤️
At the launch of Danielle Mclaughlin’s new book Rituals. I was very fortunate to get a pre release copy of the book and it is excellent. So warm and funny. Danielle is such an unsung hero of the Irish writing community.
Esther is now Following You by Tanya Sweeney is a great read. I highly recommended it. I predict it will be snapped up for filming at some point. Has the making of a great mini series. Watch this space.
On World Poetry Day here is my favourite poem. Always makes my chest tight.
I’m very late to the party on this. I’ve just finished season 1 of Southland and I think it’s one of the best police procedural shows I’ve ever seen. It’s like The Shield , The Wire, Homicide Life on the Street and NYPD Blue all rolled into one.
Sis got me this for Christmas. ( my request ). At one stage only 5 libraries in the world had a copy. is absolutely the strangest book I have ever read. The first line of the book is “ He walked into the turbulent supermarket”. some experience. short book but a book that I am still thinking about
Public service announcement. After a few episodes I can say that When Life gives you Tangerines is one of the most beautiful shows I’ve seen in years
“Four episodes into this outstanding mini-series exploring the future impacts of climate change. Part Black Mirror, part sobering reality—a thought-provoking and chilling glimpse at a possible future. Essential viewing.”
Just finished Emilia Perez. Strong start with great performances and music, but it drags in the second half and asks for an extreme suspension of disbelief. Mixed feelings overall.
Very intense French Canadian Psychological thriller / realistic horror. Unlike anything I’ve ever seen before. Not sure I want it recommended it to people but it absolutely made me think and also made me feel very uncomfortable.
A really clever , well written and performed thriller. A brilliant take on cat and mouse. If you like I Saw the Devil you will like this. Shot fully on 35mm film. Top marks.
I did not expect to be so utterly transfixed by this movie. Such a great film. Fiennes is utterly compelling.
I rewatched Blink Twice tonight. I loved it the first time, but on a second viewing—knowing exactly what was happening—I hated it. The ending felt completely different this time. It’s rare for me to go 180 on a movie like this, and not in the good way.
