An excellent turn of phrase: The point of the indictment is to demonstrate that the United States Department of Justice is wholly an instrument of Donald Trump’s senescent pique, no more independent of him than a boil on his ass. But this whole thing is important to read and internalize.

I am not sure who the Secretary is listening to, but it is quite certainly not to us. Unvetted and conflicted outside organizations seem to be the sources HHS use over the gold standard science of CDC and other reputable sources.

Same guy who said he was willing to lay down cover fire for Hegseth is (1) desperately afraid, and (2) doesn't know how carjacking works. The Republican party is a bunch of losers.

I thought your organization wrote this? You are very clearly equating these two issues, and the entire paper is about that equation. Though my initial statement was based on comments from my dad, who is a FIRE fan, telling me that censorship from the feds is bad, but the left is just as bad.

The data from 2020 through 2024 reveal how quickly the winds of censorship can shift — from students demanding punishment in the name of social justice to administrators doing so in the name of “safety” or as capitulation to federal pressure. Whether it’s about race or the war in Gaza, when institutions give in to calls to punish speech, they undermine the very mission of higher education. The question isn’t whether the speech in question is offensive or provocative — sometimes it surely is. The question is whether we are willing to protect the principle of free expression even when doing so is hard. If we aren’t, then today’s targets could be tomorrow’s enforcers — and vice versa.

The first panel shows a man and a woman in an old-fashioned car and the woman says "I don't mind most marine mammals. But seal lions? I could do without sea lions." The man responds "Don't say that out loud!" In the second panel, a sea lion is shown saying "pardon me,I couldn't help but overhear ..." and the man says "now you've done it."

In the third panel the sea lion says "I would like to have a civil conversation with you about your statement. Would you mind showing me evidence of any negative thing any sea lion has ever done to you?"

In the fourth panel the woman says "Go away!" and the sea lion says "There is no need to raise your voice, I'm right here. I'm just curious if you have any sources to back up your opinion."

In the fifth panel the woman is in bed, and says "You're in my House!" and the sea lion next to bed says "you made a statement in public for all to hear. Are you unable to defend the statements you make? Or simply unwilling to have a reasoned discussion?"

In the final panel the man and woman are at the breakfast table. The man says "I told you, dude. Sea Lions." The sea lion sitting between them says "I've been unfailingly polite, and you two have been nothing but rude." The woman says "I'm trying to eat breakfast," and the sea lion responds "Very well, we shall resume in an hour."
