More or less freshly weeded view from my retirement glider. What the woodchuck and her children and friends didn’t eat: heliopsis, sedum, agastache, geranium maculatum, Joe Pye weed, and Nepeta. What they did eat: everything else but crab grass.🌼🌱
A wild bee balm appeared next to the vegetable garden along with lots of weeds whose names I’ve forgotten. Not sure why I left it this particular weedy sprout but it’s now gorgeous. Blooms for weeks and attracts more pollinators than the nursery varieties with cute names. And no critter nibbles.🌱
Mushrooms lining up over the roots of an ancient oak cut down five or six years ago.🌳🍄🍄🟫
And the yard guy came by to help put a floppy barrier on the top of the fence, just in case the trapper guy didn’t get all of them. Three woodchucks, a raccoon, and a possum, but the woods are deep.🌱 My husband would be amazed at how many guys I need to hire to replace him.
Chewed to the ground by three different woodchucks, and yet they still rise. I hope.🌱
My husband caught a possum when trying to get a woodchuck, why I just hire a local pro. Here’s the woodchuck feasting on what used to be a nice row of edamame plants. I absolutely did intend to catch him. In fact this is the third one this week along with a raccoon. Not giving up my garden easily.🌱
Chomping on a banana while waiting to join the rest of his family, or at least I hope it’s the entirety of his family, in the big woods. Can I replant the edamame seeds now? Please?🌱
@sarahmackattack.bsky.social maybe they just could’ve walked a few blocks to your house and picked it up😆😆😆
Looks like little Chuckie had a sibling. Chuck and Mom have been relocated, plus a random raccoon caught in another trap, now to trap the sib. Of course, since this is the edge of the woods who knows how many more are waiting to feast on my green beans and edamame? 🌱
Yes handsome friend, I am trying to dispose of you. Trapper Ken is doubtful but I have hopes- especially since you didn't stop at green beans and edamame, but ate all the cucumbers and fennel and are now destroying peas. You should have stayed in the flower garden. 🌱
Generally, I coexist with the forest creatures in my yard. If they want to eat phlox and echinacea, I’ll plant something else. But this guy who has borrowed under the fence into my vegetable garden, knocking apart a raised bed in the process, is asking for trouble. 🌱
I remember seeing a really great collection of correlation versus causation, but this was the chart I had in my physics lab.
The storm last night broke some stems so now I get to see them in my kitchen. #bloomscrolling
Did you see the barn with the voluntary robotic milking system? Way cleaner than when I used to take firstborn to the old cow barn. We were there so often they called her the barn mascot. But when you’re a grad student free entertainment is free entertainment.
When I was a kid I thought there was something magical about mountain laurel, the #CT state flower-maybe because my brother said I'd go to jail if I picked it. 😂I had no idea it grew in people's yards, just on wooded hillsides. Now it fills the wooded parts of my small yard and it's still lovely 🌱🌸
This 5 br, 3/4 acre house in my neighborhood (bought at auction for flipping) is listed at 449k. Ten miles from UConn. Not looking forward to house shopping in RI
