“After the Ford government's legislation removing the City of Toronto from the agreement passed in May, Transport Canada launched a public consultation to solicit feedback on the proposal. The data from the Transport Canada survey was still being tabulated, but according to the senior official, 87,000 people participated, with 80 per cent of responses coming from the City of Toronto, and a further 15 per cent from the region. Among those who participated, 87 per cent opposed any changes to the air-port.

The airport still requires an expansion for safety reasons, after Transport Canada forced all Canadian airport to expand their runways to allow for planes that overshoot their landings. The official said those safety-related expansions would still go ahead, but that expansion would not be significant enough for jets.”
